Given how close the county boundary passes to Swindon, I wouldn't be surprised if as much as 10% or so came from Oxfordshire.
Title: Re: Who's from oxfordshire Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Monday, January 7, 2013, 14:49:21 is the offer to take the wife instead?
Title: Re: Who's from oxfordshire Post by: Red Frog on Monday, January 7, 2013, 15:43:07 is the offer to take the wife instead? Aren't you poorly placed to talk about taking other people's wives out? ;) Or is that it, are you a free agent these days? This would just give credibility to the much loathed Heathite boundary revision of 1974....there are some like me who prefer to stick to the Alfredian divisions. A few go by train every week. Title: Re: Who's from oxfordshire Post by: Ardiles on Monday, January 7, 2013, 17:22:05 Did Oxfordshire pinch areas of Wiltshire as well then? I was aware that it took a chunk of Berkshire (which used to be shaped liked a boot?) but hadn't realised that Wiltshire was affected as well.
Title: Re: Who's from oxfordshire Post by: Ardiles on Monday, January 7, 2013, 17:22:51 We dick about with boundaries far too much in this country. Can you imagine them doing this with US states? They would never allow it.

No bits of Wiltshire...Glos, Berkshire and Hampshire have nibbled at it though. I resent the fact, that whereas the Oxon boundary on the 420 used to be by Botley, it is now by Stratton. Title: Re: Who's from oxfordshire Post by: Ardiles on Monday, January 7, 2013, 17:36:57 Interesting. SBC should be careful about building to the Oxfordshire border, as they seem to want to with the proposed Eastern Development. They built to the Swindon/Wiltshire border over on the other side of town and then (as covered in another thread recently) Wiltshire responded by waving through the Ridgeway Farm development - within their own boundaries, but contiguous with the Swindon urban area. Effectively a new Swindon suburb. Would be stupid to repeat the mistake.

Oxon CC would just love that arrangement.. Title: Re: Who's from oxfordshire Post by: TheDukeOfBanbury on Monday, January 7, 2013, 20:07:51 Did Oxfordshire pinch areas of Wiltshire as well then? Always amazes me how "East" Swindon actually is within Wiltshire. Very close to the Oxon border. As soon as I go under that railway bridge (single road) on that bend, I get the football buzz.......come on !! Title: Re: Who's from oxfordshire Post by: Uncletrunx on Monday, January 7, 2013, 20:50:26 I live in the bit of Oxfordshire that they nicked from Berkshire.
The local football league is still the North Berks league, even though about 90% of the teams are now in Oxfordshire. As for the plan to build to the boundary; Oxon won't do it because it would mean building through White Horse country. I get the feeling that SBC are hoping that some of Oxon's infrastructure can take the strain...
