Jay set for comeback - two weeks early
           
           


  JAY McEveley is two weeks ahead of schedule as he recovers from knee surgery, according to Swindon Town manager Paolo Di Canio.

Hope we don't change our defence as a result.

Dilemma for Di Canio.  He'd be foolish to change a defence that's been rock solid.

McCormack's performance yesterday will make him bloody hard to drop!

I actually thought McCormack was poor in the first half, but was released once Roberts came on and occupised them defensively in the 2nd half.  After that, he was given the freedom to dictate the left hand side the pitch for us.
PDC always has a little tinker, it keeps them on their toes.  The defence has been solid for over a year now, and plenty of people have had a stint so it seems they all work!

Jay Mac was quality before he got injured. I see no reason why he can't swap him for McCormack. Let's be honest it's not Macca's natural position. It's the central pairing which shouldn't be broken up in my opinion.

Agree with this, but McCormack doesn't seem to get dropped.  Di Canio would more likely move him back to CB and drop Devera, which would be mighty unfair.  Agree with Robert T as well, McCormack was dire in the first half, although to be fair so were most of the team!

I concur with IOB and Jo, Jay Mac is a better left back than McCormack in my opinion, but I would be very hesitant to bring him back at the expense of the current CB partnership. Ward and Devera seem to complement each other well and struck up a good understanding surprisingly quickly.

By my quick calculations we've only conceded 3 goals in the 8 games they've played together in the middle of defence, compared to 25 in 22 the rest of the season.

So the stats confirm it's the best CB pairing we have. I can personally see McCormack moving to RB again which would be a shame for Thompson as he's also been very good there.

As stated above McCormack was all over the place first half. Always looked to go long and most of the time went straight to opposition. Gave away a lot of fouls as well. 2nd half was a different story but whether that was down to Pompey attacking less its hard to tell. Would keep the defence as it is and see if it was a one off until jay is match fit. Would never had thought at the start of the season there wouldn't have been space to fit flint or McCormack into the back 4. Shows how well devera and Thompson have been
