I think both statements are pretty stupid.

I just don't see any point in doing the opposition manager's job for him by motivating his players.

Essentially though, this is a rent-a-quote statement...ie the old we can win if we play to our potential line. In fact there's an element of doubt...namely we might not win even if we do play to our potential.  As ever the Adver headline writers (from Oxford) warp it.

If we lose it will be solely down to these comments, of course...
