They genuinely don't see a problem with it, in Eastern Europe the majority of people are racist, (this comes from personal experience) and because racism is so acceptable it is very hard to combat.

They should have just said we only want to sign players from the Baltic nations, and left it at that. Not the smartest of moves.

I know Athletic Bilbao only sign players from the Basque region of Spain and that hasn't done them any harm, as they're only 1 of 3 teams never to have been relegated from la liga (bet you can't guess the other 2!!). However I know this is a completly different kettle of fish and do feel that it is persecution of a race rather than preference of a team to protect their identity.

Athletic, have recently given a debut to Jonas Ramalho, a black lad, who's Basque, being brought up near Bilbao with a Basque mother.

I used to like the policy of Sociedad, who try to play only Basque players, but found it difficult to compete with Athletic, so changed the policy, to Basques and foreigners acceptable, just no other Spaniards.

Athletic Bilbao have a Frenchman playing for them this season, Aymeric Laporte.

Yorkies had a Yorkshire born only "policy" until the early 90s and the current (!) Indian test player Sachin Tendulkar became their first overseas player round about that time.  Not sure how the (in)famous western terrace compares to Eastern Europe now but sorry, Yorkies, it wouldn't have compared well in the past.
