It isn't quite that simple though....in order to get a decent crowd we have to be competing, at the top end of the Div 2  table...the last time this happened was v MBoro in November 97. Going into it the teams were 2nd and 3rd, not sure which way round....crowd of 15,000 at the CG...we lost and fell away and didn't get such a decent crowd again, before relegation.

Think of the financial implications

I can honestly say I have no idea what our average crowd would be if we made the Championship. 10-11K max is my guess.

With the current facilities I agree 10K would be the norm.
You only have to look at Reading to see how the gates swelled once improvements were in place.
 

Getting the new facilities right is key but is well tricky.

Swansea, Reading and a lot of others show it must be a good thing.
Darlington, Coventry, Oxford and a lot of other show it isn't!

Not sure what make a good redevelopment and what makes a bad one myself! Good job it isn't down to me:)

Villa tickets were snapped up extremely quickly and didnt get anywhere near general sale.  My glory hunting (if thats possible) villa supporting mate was after one but didnt stand a chance in the end.

Town fans will need to be in good voice as Villa's lot usually are very loud. Should be a cracking atmosphere

If you look at the above - location and accessibility seems to be the key, and lets be honest if we stay at the CG it cannot be much better.

From recollection Swansea is fairly central, they have had the added bonus of it coinciding with their promotions and it has led to them moving forward. An whilst Reading is out of town its accesible from the motorway, got stuff round it and again coincided with moving up the leagues.

Look at the negative ones and the first two's locations, infrastructure and surroundings is poor, Darlo is on a roundabout on the edge of the town with nothing nearby, Oxford is next to a sewage works, Coventry is the exception a little, but arent they just being screwed over for rent - as are Oxford infact!

Property development is not rocket science and if they can get the planning issues for the site sorted and identify uses which provide the fabled 24 hour 365 day income I would say we have a fantastically prime site and opportunity.

This I suspect why our owners are still committed to funding!

Brighton has not been included in that list.....way out on the edge of the town.  Well sited for road access, and there is a station, but not on the main north/south line...fantastic facilities, a great stadium, and crowds have grown hugely....25k+ on Saturday.  Not sure what conclusion to draw from that!!  It has to be a combination of a team finding success and having a stadium to be proud of - Coventry has hardly been a success story!  But that has to be what STFC aims for - both and....

By the way, if anyone finds they can't use their tickets for Villa.....I was too slow to get the two I hoped for....would be happy to purchase them.  PM me....

Big difference between Pox and Cov versus the others is that they are just tenants, so they still only get gate money, they miss out on the other matchday and non-matchday revenues and in fact have to pay rent so they are a contributor to rather than beneficiary of one of the major revenue streams. Whereas where it has worked there's been a crest of the wave to ride financially and in morale which can then be reinvested in the club creating a positive upward spiral, although it usually takes additional investment post-build to keep that going, it's not enough to just build the thing and sit back waiting for the success to roll in

Yes but it's a partnership with the club, so they do get a "sympathetic" deal on revenues from the ground. Whereas Cov and Pox, for example, don't even getting the money from matchday catering IIRC. They just get the right to sell tickets to the game, the landlords get everything else

Must be a women defect. They all seem to to it. Some come with an optional "don't forget I'm out tomorrow night" setting that when questioned as to how you'd forget something you weren't told about responds with "it's in the calendar".

I thought that was just me!  Brilliant.

I especially enjoy the "You don't mind if I go out tonight do you?" just as she finishes the hour long bath/getting dressed up/doing hair/makeup etc ritual. Like it's actually a question at that point. Because of course if I say "Yes I forbid it, woman", she'll take off all the slap and just go and clean the cooker or something.
