Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: sonicyouth on Sunday, July 31, 2005, 16:13:57 It seems as though Stef will be out and Rory will be banned, so who you would pick?
I'd play 4-4-2 as below Code:
subs: Bulman Lapham Comyn-Platt Caton or Wells Roberts Possibly switch Shakes with Roberts. Alternatively, a 5-3-2 system... Code:
subs: Bulman Lapham Nicholas Shakes Caton Roberts would be given a free role in the centre to link up with the strikers, making forward runs into the box and ideally negating the long ball, with Pook and Whalley making themselves available for short passes out from defence. Alternatively, you could drop Roberts and put Shakes in the middle and give Whalley that free role instead, as his passing is supposed to be very good and has looked pretty useful in pre-season. We still need a couple of players... Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: McLovin on Sunday, July 31, 2005, 16:46:05 both plausible solutions...
Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: my-velocity on Sunday, July 31, 2005, 16:48:37 I like that 4-4-2 formation, simple but affective. Got some strong players there to. Maybe put Charlie in.
Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: Ralphy on Sunday, July 31, 2005, 17:22:51 Roberts should start, Shakes didn't impress me in pre season.
Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: walrus on Sunday, July 31, 2005, 18:02:28 Roberts didn't look too shabby in the right wing-back position against Crawley in the 3-5-2, although I would still favour Jenks. I would go with your 3-5-2 formation Sonic, although only because I saw Jack Smith as a real liability against Crawley.
It's a good team, but weakish bench and the squad is looking a bit threadbare. I'm hoping when I get back from holiday Swindon will have made a signing or two! Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: DV on Sunday, July 31, 2005, 18:07:54 I would certainly go with the first line up of 4-4-2
However that bench looks extremely lightweight, I pray to god Migz is fit for the game... Title: Re: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: Reg Smeeton on Sunday, July 31, 2005, 18:50:10 Its frightening how light weight our side looks......I don't think Reeeeves has really been putting in the work to start yet....but I'd play him just to provide some leadership, if he was fit.
Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: Leggett on Sunday, July 31, 2005, 19:51:54 so fallon, who's been having a decent pre-season, doesnt even make the bench?

In the cold light of day, the season may come down to how well Pook, Lapham, Caton, and Wells, are able to learn the professional game PDQ. I sincerely hope that Kingy finds a couple more, especially, one for that slot in midfield in front of the defence (Ooooolitt). Title: Re: Line-up for Barnsley? or could have Collins as centre back instead of Ifil and Pook in midfield. I'd have thought Collins would start anyway he was near ever-present at Wednesday and they got promoted so he must be first choice. Title: Line-up for Barnsley? What's even more frightening is that King on RS said "Its frightening how light weight our side looks....we've lost a lot of size", as to why he got in Collins. He then went on to blame Jerel for another of his moments...and intimated that Collins may be in for him, if it continues. Neither Wells or Caton are on pro terms so you can't expect them to learn PDQ. Lapham will be this years Herring....Pook I think will figure . Title: Re: Line-up for Barnsley? Collins O'Hanlon Ifil Smith Shakes Jenkins Whalley Nicolau Cureton Thorpe We'll line up like this I predict. It will finish 1-1 and Jerel will be at fault for their goal. again. Jenkins Collins O'Hanlon Smith Shakes Pook Whalley Nicolau Thorpe Cureton Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: reeves4england on Wednesday, August 3, 2005, 13:28:20 Pook? An interesting choice, and possibly an inspiring one. But would be hesitant to throw him in so early in the season.
Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Wednesday, August 3, 2005, 13:32:26 i would not be so hesitant TBH. he scored a few goals in pre season and looks like he may be a useful player to us this season. Jenks in midfield has been tried and dont think it worked all too well. Having said that we do need experience in midfield but id rather have O'Hanlon in there. he did well in that postion last year
Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: Danjackson10 on Wednesday, August 3, 2005, 14:56:40 i think bulman will start! i really hope not but evans was out of training today and king said he would use bulman if he had 2!
Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, August 4, 2005, 18:07:38 Having surveyed all the avaiable evidence.......barring Glenn McGrathesque injury :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick: I think this will be the team at Barnsley.
Code: Evans Title: Line-up for Barnsley? Post by: Sippo on Thursday, August 4, 2005, 18:12:49 I'd like to see Pook replaced with Roberts, using his pace for just behind the front two. That would be good.
