After a visit to the great Cathedral last week(brilliant by the way) i was suprised to learn that the great John Constable did some nice works on Salisbury, usually in Norfolk and Suffolk his work is used to be seen.
Not suprisingly he manages to get his trademark Cart in the picture.....painted from Salisbury Meadows in 1831.

Anyone else like Constable now? :D

The thing I admire about original Constable's works is that they are massive - hard to appreciate fully via copious rip-off imitations .

I like Constable, but prefer the works of Gainsborough and Turner to name but 2.

 Here's Turner's take on Sarum

I prefer Vincent Van Goghs "can you hear the Bristol sing, no, no"

Living in London, I every so often pop along to the national gallery. See the constables in the corner of the room that just happens to contain my favourite Turners (Fighting Temeraire is amazing) and whisper to myself under my breath "Westcountry, na na na, westcountry, na na na"

I wonder what would happen if Constable tried to 'do' a Constable...
