Title: Stevenage Away
Post by: Hitchinred on Friday, October 12, 2012, 10:27:16
This one's my local game and I was disappointed we passed them on the way down to League 2. That has now been sorted and I'm looking forward to a trip to whatever Broadhall Way is called now. My Boro supporting colleague tells me they're trying to encourage the youngsters and each adult can take up to 3 kids free so it could be a large crowd with a young average age.

Will be my first away trip of the season I'd imagine, and a sell-out in the away you'd imagine. Only hold 1400 and easy to get to from both Swindon and London. Terraced too, although there seems to be sod all around the ground from memory.

I'm moving to Hitchin next week so will only be a quick train jaunt!  :D

Pub recommendations?

And HR, pub recommendations in Hitchin? We're living next to the train station.

Actually not terraced at all is it! A shitty little modern end instead.

Shame, thought it was to be the only redeeming feature of the ground.

I'll be on the train from Biggleswade! Along with upto 3-6 workmates who'll be getting to see the Town in action first hand. West Ham, Ipswich, Everton, Norwich and possibly Liverpool fans will be flying the Red flag come the 27th. We haven't got tickets yet and if the worst comes to the worst we'll be in the home end.
Don't let me down Town.

FFS not another lot of fans with a drum! I think it's about time they were banned from grounds! >:(

Watched their home game on Sky a couple of weeks ago and all you could hear was the proxy drum.

That's on the agenda for Crawley I think so a test run at Stevenage would be good  :)

would be like those electric dog collars, as soon as the drum pipes up then we do, as soon as it stops we do.  see how long it takes for the drum to stop for good

We were going to get the 11.23 as well but wasn't planning on going to Biggleswade!

I take it there is not a lot in Stevenage then?

It's just a random London Reds thing! There probably are plenty of decent places in Stevenage :)

I havent checked it out, but apparently the ground is a nearer cab ride from Biggleswade station than Stevenage. We're also going back for a few after.

That isn't the case. The Railway station in Stevenage is about 1 mile from the ground, Biggleswade is approx 15 miles away.....

However, The Wade is a nice place to have a few drinks, and it's only 3 stops from Biggleswade to Stevenage (or 1 if you get a faster train)

I must confess I had to check my geography before tying this, but thats absolute bollocks Sutton.

Biggleswade is a good ten miles (and three stops) further north than Stevenage. From memory, its a fair walk (about a mile or so) from Stevenage station to the ground.

EDIT: Gosh darn you, Bedford Red!

We're heading straight to Stevenage station which, as above, is about 15/20 mins walk to the ground.  There's a Wetherspoons by the station, a large 'Club House' which is away-friendly by the ground, and a Good Beer Guide pub called 'Our Mutual Friend' about 10 mins walk past the ground for good ale etc apparently.

30 miles there and back, by my reckoning that's a good 60 minutes travel. To try and complete the illusion i'm not an utter pisshead, thats 3, ok 4 or 5 pints that wont have the chance to be savoured.

Haha maybe that's not a bad thing when taking into account previous LR's exploits (my own included)!

The golden Pheasent in biggles is ideal if you like what my mate calls warm brown shit (real ale to you and me). Not the biggest pub either. Still me and the missus will pop in and if anyone is interested we can take 2 people from there to the game. Come on you reds

long walk from the station.

For those at the back of the stand, you can make one hell of a din by hitting the back of the stand - better than hearing their stupid drum in any case

I'd drive down from centre parcs in Elvedon Forest but the misses would effing kill me. Still Imhave my iPad to keep me sane during the day.

PS. I understand what PDC says about the Villa game. We can only neutralse the embargo with an increase in income by beating them and progressing to the next round. That or off loading a load of players, assuming other clubs want them. Failing that we'll have to wait till the third round of the FA Cup which is in early January.
