I used to go to this little coffee shop. Little fucking shit hole in the middle of nowhere. Somehow it still had customers.

They always had a cake.

Sometimes the cake tasted nice, sometimes it tasted like shit.

Often it would taste bad for ages, but then suddenly it would taste nicer than it had ever tasted before.

Sometimes the cake would taste lovely all the time, but then it would stop tasting so nice.

There were times that it would gradually get sourer or sweeter before you'd noticed how sweet or sour it had really become.

Then the cake got infested with crack.

The coffee shop is still there.

Not much has changed. It does seem to be a popular spot for lorry drivers though.

Your memory of the cake is nostalgic and rose tinted. The cakes changed, but it still good if you pick out the shitty bits, like always. But some people like some of the bits other people find shitty, like always.

I still love the coffee shop.

People said they wanted nothing to do with the crack cake, it was a bad thing.

But then when they were arguing against the crack cake, suddenly they'd become a part of the crack cake itself.

Within weeks the coffee shop was known as the crack cake shop.

Cake is a made up drug.
