It depends on the model, what you need, how much you've got to spend and so on.
But having said that, I believe that Intel piss all over AMD nowadays on the desktop and to a lesser degree on laptops. Think AMD have got better built in graphics, especially on laptops. If I can afford it I tend to always go intel, but would be more than happy with an AMD.

Unless you use highly multithreaded applications which most of us don't, but in day to day its no contest.
