Title: Ryder Cup
Post by: kerry red on Monday, September 24, 2012, 10:58:09
Wouldn't normally cross the road to watch golf, but I do love the Ryder Cup.

And it dosen't feel weird supporting a team called 'Europe'

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Can't watch normal golf, even masters other than 20 minutes of thee final round, the boredom is unrelenting.

But the Ryder cup is great. Unless we lose, obviously.

Europe at around 6/4 outright is massive imo.

Poults as top wildcard points scorer at 9/2.

A draw is worth a small wager.......it will be close.

For top points scorer for Europe look no further than Paul Lawrie at decent odds......probably the most in form player in Europe at present and has risen 200 places up the rankings in the last year or so to now sit in the worlds top 30.

We are going away for the weekend to La Manga playing golf.

Play Golf in the day, drink beer & watch the Ryder Cup in the evening.   :)

Even better this year, as I don't even miss a home game  (was Swindon 4-0 Barnet at this time last year)

Don't think he'll play as much as the young pups Leefer and not sure 72 holes in 2 days really suits the older guard. He's rock solid though.

I hope we stuff the fuckers, I fear they'll spank us on the final day in the singles.

Title: Re: Ryder Cup
Post by: kerry red on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 16:02:22
US cannot play as a team, which is why Europe will stuff them in the 4-balls,

The American reliance on the self explains why, for example, Tiger Woods is brilliant in the singles and absolutely hopeless when paired up.

I just can't see how the US can win enough of the singles to make up for getting trounced in the rest of the tournament.

Vive l'Europe!!!

I think we'll need a decent lead going into the sunday to win. They will be strong in the singles just like last time but have home advantage this time around.

Title: Re: Ryder Cup

I saw in The Sun today that Paddy Power are offering 4/1 for Europe to win if you open up an account with them. £100 max

6/4 for all existing customers.

I've had a bit of that.

Agreed. That's why I like the 16/1 in Skybet's market of who's leading after each day for 'Europe:Europe:USA' as we normally do well at the team formats whereas they're likely to dominate the singles.

Skybet only let me have £15 on though as I'd have liked a little more.

Good move by Olly to send the two northern Irish lads out first. Hit them hard, hit them early!

I have backed Europe to be leading at the end of day 1 at 13/8.

Also backed schnedeker and Garcia as top points scorers.

How'd you work that out?

The only yank who's played good matchplay golf this season is Hunter and they haven't picked him

Think Europe will be a couple up by the end of Day 1...Can't see Rory/Macca losing in the first match...as FCB says, great decision to send them out first! EUUUUUUUUUUROPE!!!!

Title: Re: Ryder Cup
Post by: gingernuggets on Friday, September 28, 2012, 09:34:09
Well if they don't then I think they're going to struggle and they've won the singles matches in the last two events.

Tiger's singles record isn't too shabby either although admittedly I'd have liked to watch Hunter duff another crucial chip to hand us the cup again.

Nice to see zero sportsmanship from the yanks there, no relief despite close proximity of sprinkler head.

Tricky putt for Rory now.

Stolen from BBC live feed:

Poulter on tee at 13 - over the drink and that's hot as hell, right over the back. Furyk on 17, also over the water, and his tee shot has just "ooh-aahed" it's way onto the front of the green. Woods on 13 - Tiger leaks it miles right and he is officially playing ruddy dreadful, he'll be pulling out old lake balls from the bottom of his bag at this rate. Stricker with a fine recovery but Woods has got a quick one coming back, like cat sick travelling across linoleum.

Great reporting  :D

Colsaerts... Astonishing

I wonder how many pages long this thread would have been if the Europeans had turned up?

I'm with Arriba on this, I can see some Europe fight early on perhaps take a couple of points and get back to 10-8 before being hammered in the late singles! Must be good odds on Europe if you fancied us coming back from defeat?

I think Ollies done the right thing sending big guns out early but so have the yanks, you look at the first 4 out for the USA and they've all played unbelievable golf.

Think we need 3.5-0.5 in the first 4 matches minimum and hope the lesser lights fire

Title: Re: Ryder Cup
Post by: fittons_coaching_badge on Sunday, September 30, 2012, 11:43:25
I think the Yanks came from 10-6 down in 1999 at Brookline.  Olly's done right in sending the big guns out early.  Had no option really.

The Lawrie ,Colsarts loss was the killer..........Johnson;s big put on the 17th was the killer blow i reckon.......if we had grabbed that point or even a half, then a chance was there.......four back is to much i reckon.

Looking forward to it later.

Not so sure arriba...it is WAAAAAAAAY north will put a lot of people off from down South....Celtic Manor was ideal location......The downside is Gleneagles just dosn't have the room course wise that Celtic has so i reckon course numbers may be at a premium.
Soon as i get any details i will post..........should imagine it will be a ballot again.

A good idea is to sign for the newsletter on this page,,,,,,,,dont forget to tick the ticket box.
Also sign up to My Europeantour on the same page....is a good read if you like golf and also gives you early warning of ballots/sales.

This gave me a good head start for ticks when i went to Celtic Manor

Just saw this on Sky: a US journalist Gene Wojciechowski wrote after day two of the Ryder cup " It's over, Olazabal can click off the Walkie-talkie.Time for the Europeans to fire up their private jets &head back home to Florida " he also wrote this: " If Mrs Poulter had had Quintuplets &they all played golf then team Europe might have won this thing "
Since then he has said " I thought it was all over after Saturday and so did the pro- American crowd.........Lesson Learned "  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:
