Title: Re: This picture Post by: fittons_coaching_badge on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 20:06:01 Around 1990 maybe?
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Gnasher on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 20:08:33 Judging by the jeans they're wearing, 1988.
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Boy About Town on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 20:11:06 A beer and smoke at pitchside, could only dream of that in the modern game.
Title: Re: This picture Post by: RedRag on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 20:30:42 used to be able to "smoke Town to score" at the CG - which you can only attempt now in your own home listening to STFC Player
The GWR pitchside hoarding indicates 1989-1991 to me - heady days Title: Re: This picture Post by: leefer on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 20:34:51 Is the lad sitting down with his back to us putting the two fingers up?
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Paolo69 on Thursday, September 13, 2012, 21:11:57 Bloke on the left stood up is wearing an England away shirt worn at Italia 90 by our boys I believe.
Only know this as I bought a reproduced retro one this year. Title: Re: This picture Post by: @MacPhlea on Friday, September 14, 2012, 06:53:18 I can guarantee the time of day... 6:09pm
Also based on the facts that... There are leaves on the tree's and they are green (Rules out October - March) The condition of the pitch is very good (Rules out every game from October onwards!) The sun is relatively low for 6:09pm (Rules out October to March) The advertising hoardings are circa 1990 The England top is circa 1990 This photo was taken in September 1990 - probably the Wolves game... Tuesday 18th September at 6:09pm... Title: Re: This picture Post by: Dozno9 on Friday, September 14, 2012, 07:10:32 Nah, that clock's always wrong.
Title: Re: This picture Post by: sheepshagger on Friday, September 14, 2012, 07:13:47 Did you know it is the only Rolex clock in world football ?
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Flashheart on Friday, September 14, 2012, 07:14:08 It was certainly before The Arkells seats were out in at the front, which happened in 92
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Dozno9 on Friday, September 14, 2012, 07:16:04 I love that clock, I've wished it slower and faster depending on the game.
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Friday, September 14, 2012, 07:33:21 the England shirt was the away on for euro1992
Title: Re: Re: Re: This picture Post by: tans on Friday, September 14, 2012, 07:42:13 the England shirt was the away on for euro1992 Have you got a signed one for sale? Title: Re: This picture Post by: Arriba on Friday, September 14, 2012, 07:45:56 Think the 1990 date is about right, although it could have been any day really as the old social club used to be open in those days. The doors used to open out onto the area shown and people were able to go out there all the time.
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Friday, September 14, 2012, 08:02:22 Have you got a signed one for sale? only match worn ones Title: Re: This picture Post by: mrverve on Friday, September 14, 2012, 08:13:18 The guy sitting on the floor with the white tee looks like Paul Trollope.
Title: Re: This picture Post by: fatbasher on Friday, September 14, 2012, 19:32:29 Other than the GWR hoarding the other one is Morrison & Masters solicitors. Clearly early '90's as everyone has a valid point that does point to that era.
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Berniman on Saturday, September 15, 2012, 15:22:36 I think I know the guy in the England shirt and the guy with his back to us stood next to him.
Brian Brogden and Julian Mabberly, though I maybe wrong. Title: Re: This picture Post by: jayohaitchenn on Monday, September 17, 2012, 12:30:05 Pretty sure that's not Brian, but I'll ask him when he gets back from lunch.
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Peter Venkman on Monday, September 17, 2012, 12:32:36 I think I know the guy in the England shirt and the guy with his back to us stood next to him. I was at school with Mabbs.Brian Brogden and Julian Mabberly, though I maybe wrong. Title: Re: This picture Post by: Berniman on Monday, September 17, 2012, 14:20:54 It might not be them, it just looks like them. Hard to judge what they would have looked like because of the age of the photo. If it's not them it looks like them.
Brian is probably out buying another Sergio Tachini retro tracksuit! :-) Title: Re: This picture Post by: jayohaitchenn on Monday, September 17, 2012, 15:14:19 Brian was about 12 when that picture was taken. It's not him.
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Berniman on Monday, September 17, 2012, 16:19:32 Haha, well it looks like him anyway. :-)
Title: Re: This picture Post by: jayohaitchenn on Monday, September 17, 2012, 18:32:47 A fat cunt? :)
Title: Re: This picture Post by: red sheldon on Monday, September 17, 2012, 19:45:24 looking in the background reminds me I miss the old Shrivvy Rd stand
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Mother Brown on Monday, September 17, 2012, 20:03:49 The chap in the England shirt is Steve(big bird)Foster. That is my goodself stood next to him and CDH giving the V sign.
Also looks like Steve the gas and Jonny Ash sat at the table. Title: Re: This picture Post by: sonicyouth on Monday, September 17, 2012, 20:33:13 so what year was it?
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Mother Brown on Monday, September 17, 2012, 21:04:03 1990.
Title: Re: This picture Post by: animalwilliams on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 09:47:34 Yes Summer 1990 outside of the old Supporters Club bar. Picnic benches were removed after the Taylor report was published as this ruled that no alcohol was to be consumed in view of spectators.
Ron Manners was the Steward, cockney guy who ran the place really well, bar full of people most evenings. Not a happy time for Town fans this was the Summer of the Football League double relegation decision. Still have vivid memories of the night when we heard the news. Title: Re: This picture Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 09:50:11 The chap in the England shirt is Steve(big bird)Foster. That is my goodself stood next to him and CDH giving the V sign. I was stood with Steve Fossie at the Orient game, one of my oldest mates. He is taller in real life than he appears in that pic and I didn't recognise him with hair! Also looks like Steve the gas and Jonny Ash sat at the table. Title: Re: This picture Post by: Ardiles on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 09:52:50 That pic would have been taken no more than a couple of weeks after I first set foot in the ground. Apart from the obvious (Shrivenham Road, lower seats in the Arkells), the feel of the place has changed surprisingly little. Whatever the ground redevelopment plans are when they eventually see the light of day - the clock on the Bank has to stay!
Title: Re: This picture Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 10:00:16 Judging by the jeans they're wearing, 1988. I would have said 88 or 89.Title: Re: This picture Post by: Ardiles on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 10:09:12 Funny that people think they can date a picture to within a year or two based on the style of a pair of jeans etc. If you were to show me a similar picture in 20 years or so, and ask me whether it was from 2010 or 2012 - I doubt I'd have a clue.
Title: Re: This picture Post by: animalwilliams on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 10:17:14 The yellow stancheons on the Shrivenham Road stand mean that it is 1990. Peter Day was appointed Club Secretary after all the fallout from the FA and Football League punishments. He was a friend of Ossie Ardilles from their days at Tottenham and seemed to want everything in the ground painting yellow, seemed to forget our colour was red.

Was Ron Manners the dumpy bloke with a gringo tauche ?(spolling) . . also is Mick Lewis still alive? The "squash club"was good for a pre/after match drink aswell,Mick Connelly used to run it in the early 80s.
