Title: Diabetes Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:35:05 I know somebody will say go to the Dr. but I have little confidence in them out here. Instead of counting on them to give a diagnosis, it's best to go in with a diagnosis of my own and have them confirm/reject it. Otherwise they'd likely send me packing with some paracetamol and other drugs, on which they will undoubtedly have a high mark up on. Happens all the time.
Anyway.... Suffering from terrible lack of concentration at times, it can be very hard to get work done. Reading in particular is a problem, something very noticeable in my line of work. More to the point, when I have not eaten I could fucking kill somebody. Literally. Actually quite concerned I could lose it at some point and over really quite trivial things. I become a very unpleasant person indeed (more so than usual ;). I'm no expert, but this sounds like hypoglycemia to me. Anybody? Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: kerry red on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:39:21 Just spoken to the wife who's a pharmacist/dispenser and she says when people go hypo it resembles being drunk rather than becoming aggressive.
Difficulty in speaking, uncoordinated etc. Are there no European doctors out your neck of the woods? Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: china red on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:39:33 Craving beer?
Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:40:45 TBH it sounds more like a stress ralated illness to me, but I couldn't say for sure.
I have suffered the same symptoms in the past and it has been stress related, plus lack of sleep, loss of appetite, anger build up for no apparent reason are all symptoms of that too. Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: Batch on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:42:01 Would you be able to pick up a cheap blood sugar tester?
I know you said don't, but the quacks is the best option. Too many similar symptoms for lots of diseases + internet diagnosis = convince yourself you'll be dead within a week Sounds like DiCanioitis to me. Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:42:58 I'm quite sure its food related, it's more noticeable when I have not eaten properly. Considerably so.
Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: THE FLASH on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:50:54 I'm a right nasty cunt when I'm hungry...miss us flash and the kids are well aware.
Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:53:28 Well eat properly then.
I convinced myself I had diabetes a few years ago. Went to the docs, told me there was nothing wrong with me and basically told me to eat better, get more exercise, regular sleep pattern and generally MTFU. Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: Ginginho on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:54:15 Might be some kind of food intolerance, have a read here

on a more serious note, maybe thyroid probs?? Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:58:06 Well eat properly then. I convinced myself I had diabetes a few years ago. Well if it is that, it could be the kick that I need to get excercising. I do actually eat quite well. It just catches up on me sometimes, especially when I'm busy. Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: jonny72 on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:58:30 Obviously if you think there is something wrong you should go see your doctor.
But you would be amazed at the effect that things which seem trivial can have on your body in even seemingly unrelated ways.Things like stress, depression, anxiety, lack of sleep, lack of a decent diet and so on. I was in a really bad state some years ago and eventually it was all traced back to an anxiety disorder. I know it's easier said than done but work on the basics (especially eating, sleeping and exercise) and see how you get on. Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 17:59:56 on a more serious note, maybe thyroid probs?? My mum had that Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: Notts red on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, 23:45:28 I know somebody will say go to the Dr. but I have little confidence in them out here. I know it may be more difficult as your not in the UK but boots do a cheap reliable blood glucose monitor for £9.99 (Meditouch) which isnt too dissimilar to what is used by Amulance staff. It would give you a very good indication of your sugar levels if you would prefer going to the doctors with that information. The main symptoms of Hypoglycemia are more commonly feeling sweaty/clammy and light headed. It wouldn't harm you if the next time you are feeling like you described to take a spoon of sugar/honey or clucose sweets and see if the symptoms ease after a several minutes. Anyway.... Still think your very best option would be to go and have a chat with a doc who I'm sure would sort it out. On a lighter note I'm the same as the flash and get really pissy when I'm hungry and the wife will make getting me food a priority to make it more bearable for her and the kids :) Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: dave_bambers_right_sock on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 00:10:44 One of the biggest warning signs is the need to pee all the time. I found myself going 2 to 3 times as often. I thought it was just because I was drinking more liquids but it's your body trying to get rid of the excess glucose. Thankfully the diabetes is now mostly under control by tablets, but there are occasions if i havn't eaten properly then I get clammy and irratable as the blood sugars are a bit low, as a previous poster said is there a pharmacy where you can get a blood glucose monitor from, they're quite cheap and well worth having. Would be best to get it checked over by a Dr if you can just for peace of mind. Hope this helps
Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: @MacPhlea on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 06:21:09 The brain needs energy to function properly ithaca there is a parallel between your lack of eating and concentration then it is likely the two are linked
This may help explain it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlrgAGiv9ZY&feature=youtube_gdata_player On a slightly more serious note I have similar symptoms (although not food related) and have been undergoing neuro tests for the last 8 months. The worst bit is having to travel to Oxford week in week out for diagnosis. Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: ronnie21 on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 07:00:54 i, too, can relate to some of the symptoms, especially the peeing bit. The first tests I underwent was for the old prostrate, blood tests negative so I got the physical test - no problems. Then it was on to a diabetes test (I have suffered with thyroid problems for years and that gets checked out annually), passed that one ok. After still more problems - lack of concentration etc. I was told it was just stress and given time off work which was not really the answer! At that stage I realised that one of my eyes was not working quite as well as previously, so it was back to the docs and on to the opthalmic specialist. I have a broken blood vessel at the back of my right eye they told me, could be caused by a very minor stroke. No knowledge of symptoms of stroke but still a small problem with the eye, in fact back up to the consultant today to see if there is any improvement in eye. So, it could be any number of things are you would be best to seek help from a professional.

Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 09:12:48 Go to the docs... Words of wisdom.Title: Re: Diabetes Post by: Flashheart on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 09:16:29 The doctors will just send me packing with whatever prescriptions are likely to make the hospital the most profit. I've been here for over a decade so trust me, I know. I'd rather not waste my money. I'd've been already otherwise.
