Title: Leigh Bedwell....well done son!
Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Sunday, September 2, 2012, 21:36:35
In amongst all the angst ridden furore that's been going on, let's not forget this young man who was thrown into a very difficult position indeed.

You did not let yourself down Leigh.

Well done!

pub player, we need a new keeper.

Craig Gordon is a free agent.

Obviously that wasnt a serious post. Never ever seen Bedwell play at all ever - so will not judge him. Was never going to be an easy debut coming into a side that were already up shit creek after 10 minutes.

Was on an absolute hiding to nothing. Dealt with one difficult cross very well second half and his kicking was good.

Definition of being thrown in at the deep end.

Fair point - I was supposed to put that in there somewhere.

I'd like to echo this, his reaction when called him back to strip off was like, "Who, me, what the fuck?" He must've been shitting himself walking on that pitch but he performed commendably with some excellent kicking and one or two good punches.

His defence let him down for both goals as they did for the two Wes conceded, fair play lad!

As the parent of a goalkeeper it is nice to see a lad from the youth system actually get a game, albeit under strange circumstances.

While I might disagree with PdC's decision and interview yesterday, I genuinely hope Leigh starts against Oxford and grasps his opportunity with both hands.

Agreed, thought he did very well in the circumstances!

As someone who didn't make it to the game, was nice to see Leigh acting professionally and giving Wes a little hug/touch before going on on the highlights. Got a feeling he'll be starting next game, hope Wes comes back (mentally) stronger than ever!

tj has said it all. Not a great way for a young goalkeeper to make a debut but Leigh did very well. One of the FEW players yesterday that came out of the game with any credit.

Now I've only seen the SSN highlights but was he at fault for the third?  Or was that a combination fuck-up with the nearby player as well?

No, the PNE player was unmarked at the back post and nodded it back for their striker to tap in from two yards. Think Bedwell got a touch as it was going over the line, but nothing he could do.

I would question his positioning for the 3rd goal. All over the place

Have you seen Leigh play much arriba? , I know you know a bit more about the youths than most.
Edit: I maybe should of asked this without quoting your last comment as it sounds like I'm questioning you which I'm not.

Aint seen a great deal of him but when i have he has looked good. That is at youth level though and the step up is massive, so until he's played a bit we'll not know how good he is.
Throwing him in against the scum would be a massive gamble i think.

My comment above was a bit tounge in cheek due to the flack Fods is getting. Do think he flapped a bit though

I think he did well just to be out there. A lot of higher level experienced 2nd choice keepers have crumbled under such circumstances, not the easiest place and time to make your debut! The management team have enough faith not to make a loan keeper signing a priority and the experience he gained from yesterday will do him the world of good. Im hoping Wes will start on Wednesday and play regularly all season though.
