Title: Robson
Post by: leefer on Thursday, August 30, 2012, 19:53:17
Laura that is.....looked bloody good last night.

Reckon this girl could win a few slams, anyone else see her put poor Kim to the sword last night.

She has a brilliant serve and at 18 looks like a real good prospect.

She looks decent but I fear she is just a female Henman/Murray. Close but no cigar.

She played well last night. The couple of return winners in the first set tiebreak was a game changer.

But that would be a hell of a lot better than what we've had in Britain since i've been watching since the mid-1990s.

Between Robson and Watson, I think we'll have a fair bit of interest in the female side of the draw in years to come.

Women's game is much, much more open than the men's though- they've not had a steady #1 since Henin and they generally have four different slam winners a year, rather than rotating between Nadal, Federer and Djokovic. A Henman/Murray 'level' woman WOULD win grand slams.

I get excited every time a new British girl breaks through in tennis. Which then turns to disappoint when I see them.

Why can't we have a really fit bird for a change?

Now Annabel Croft, there was a British tennis player I'd like to ace.

In fairness, Murray has an Olympic gold medal to his name, has played in Grand Slam finals, and could yet go on to win plenty. Not bad going really.

Fair play to Robson, that's a great win. She didn't impress me hugely in the Olympics, but she does have a great serve and at 18 has plenty of time to keep improving, so here's hoping she can achieve a lot.

This is Laura Robson you are talking about and not Linda Robson ? Jeez I'd bang her like a naughty drum

Shamefully, if you type Laura Robson into Google, "Laura Robson Camel Toe" is the fourth suggestion.

Doesn't come up for me. Think Google has been analysing your searches and customising the selections accordingly.

I think Laura gained a lot of confidence from the Olympic final with Murray... I doubt she will win any majors this year but given time she may prove me wrong

She's miles off competing for slams, miles.

She's only 18 and shows a lot of promise, i think she will win a major at somepoint

Also she's pretty darn fit imo.

She's now taken the 1st set against Li Na.

She's 3-2 up in the second...

Pity there aren't more opportunities for Robson to play mixed doubles with Murray more as it can only do her good having a player of his quality next to her. He spoke pretty highly of her in an interview this week as well, though obviously he's not going to come out and say she's fucking shit and I had to carry her through the Olympics.

This is Laura Robson you are talking about and not Linda Robson ? Jeez I'd bang her like a naughty drum

I'm not saying I wouldn't. Just that she wouldn't make the top 20 women tennis players I'd like to bang list.

Seriously impressive - she really goes for her shots unlike a lot of female players.. When it comes off she looks like she can give anyone a game.
85% of first serves in too.

I know many scoff at it but i think both Robson and Murray will benefit massivly from what happened at the olympics.

No scoffing here.

Murray had a mental barrier to winning a big one because personally I think he has the game to. Hopefully the Olympics will get that monkey off his back. That and Ivan Lendl's input.

Robsons only 18, a big partisan crowd and a taste of success (and disappointment) is all part of the learning process.

The biggest thing this year has that Robson has has no injuries, and over the last few months she has been training with Murray's fitness coach.

I just remembered that when Murray and Robson lost in the mixed doubles final, that someone said on this forum that it would've 'been a travesty if they had won gold' and she was 'a truly awful tennis player.'

I bet Clijsters and Li Na are not saying that right now.

Whilst being good enough technically, Murray has never seemed mentally strong enough to win a major. He seems to view winning the Olympics as being a major, or at least the next best thing, and if that has got his head in the right place then its all good.

Reckon playing with Robson helped him as well. He seems to have stepped up and be talking and acting more like a champion now. Might be good for him to play some more Davis Cup games and play the senior player type role.

Wasnt an Olympic gold the springboard for Agassi? Or did I just make that up?

Title: Re: Robson
Post by: thedarkprince on Friday, August 31, 2012, 20:31:12
Yup, made that up. He'd won 3 by Atlanta but did then win another 5 afterwards.

For what it's worth, I think Murray will do it but not sure it will be at Winbledon. More likely this one or Australia.
