Title: Swindon Vs Crystal Palace Official Matchday Thread
Post by: SuggWillSugg MBE on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, 12:34:51
Looking forward to tonight.

I've missed football, and being one of only 4 games I can actually see due to the season starting late gotta make the most of it!

Think tonight will be close, 1-0.

Not seen any pre-season games yet so looking forward to it. Having not seen any of the new signings I hae no idea what to expect. As always, performance much more important than the result, but a win would be good going into the Brighton game!

Who's going?

Looking forward to getting back to the CG tonight! A 2-2 draw I reckon... A Risser thunderbolt and a Benson tap in to be cancelled out by Zaha scoring a brace.

Not me I'm afraid. I've just been made redundant (On the government minimum) and saving the pennies but thankfully I bought our season tickets ages ago, so still up for the home league games.

Played well in attack but defence a bit wayward at times. As much as Navarro didn't seem to do much we kind of missed him when he came off. Williams is fast with a quick shot on him an will do well for us this year.

Game ruined really by the moron sat near me spouting racist crap during the whole game.

The PDC interview:
- 1/2 half happy
- 2nd 1/2 changed completely. He needs to understand why
- Players making different decisions. Seemed to switch off. Need to improve
- Penalty was a tactical mistake from Caddis
- Pleased with the test but not happy with the players in the 2nd half.
- Not sure if he will have any new players in the squad for the Brighton game
- PDC said only 1 player showed his worth in the 2nd half today
- Didn't keep the ball or show commitment
- Ferry made him very happy. Has improved and is ready to play for him and gives his best
- Think he said Navarro and Ferry in the lead for midfield place with Miller behind him and followed by Risser

I thought he said Miller was a definite then it was between Ferry and Navarro who are different types of players, with Risser behind them.

Could be wrong though.

My view  - played it around well in the first half. Good keeping and bad luck kept us out. Probably the better team YET Palace still showed a few qualities we are missing (based on tonight's performance) -  pace when breaking forward from midfield, an incisive ball from midfield and a bit of physical strength in the middle.

Second half was a non-event with Palarce looking comfortable for long periods.

Title: Re: Swindon Vs Crystal Palace Official Matchday Thread
Post by: fatbasher on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, 21:46:08
Although I did leave after about 15 mins of the second half I did enjoy the game considering there was nothing to play for it was useful to gauge where we are and I think on course is a word I'd choose. My mate thought we played very well and said we should do ok in L1 and were not humbled or shown up by his team the mighty Eagles.....

Dodgy pen though.

Thought we played well tonight. I'd be more worried if I was a Palace fan to be honest, they were pretty shit. Zaha is a dirty cunt and the penalty was defo not a penalty.

Williams put a shift in, as did Roberts. I wasn't too keen on Navarro though.

Performance bodes well for this season, we will be up there I'm sure.

A few comments from the Palace forums....

Quote
Swindon: Very good playing side. Di Canio is geting them to play very good football and at one point had us pinned down. Have hit both posts so far. Impressed with them so far, expect them to get back-to-back promotions this year.

Sounds like its all Swindon in the first half. Unless we learn how to keep the ball we wont ever get above bottom half

I'm there and it ain't good.

My mate is at the game and said we are being outplayed every area of the pitch apart from Zaha....

Swindon were good, and how we kept a clean sheet I'll never know as our defence was shocking.

First game I've been to this summer. Was very impressed with the first half - we passed the ball around really well, looked comfortable in possession and quite dangerous going forward. Ritchie was his usual self getting in crosses and shots whenever he could, but having Roberts on the left wing gave their defence even more to worry about. He looks a good signing.

Not sure what to make of Miller and Navarro. I think Navarro is one of those players who does the jobs you don't notice, so I'll assume he did that well! Miller looked good at times, but I can remember at least three occasions where he hit long balls straight into touch which was disappointing. Hopefully he'll get that sorted.

Second half was less impressive - we let them run at us and lacked a bit of spark going forward. Benson had an average game, Williams looked sharp and has a good touch but never quite got it right. Didn't get to see much of Collins but he did show some promise when he came on.

All in all a decent first half, and if we can play like that for the full 90 minutes against Brighton then we'll give them a good game.

As for the penalty it looked a stonewaller from where I was sat int he Arkells, but Wes was pretty adamant the ref got it wrong. Don't know what people in the DRS made of it? They probably had a better view than me.

Thanks Reeves. Good to read a post about the football after the last 2 pages of crap about wether or not you can get curry in the Arkells or a bloody omelette in the Town End.

Is there such a thing as non-shite Carling?

One could argue that Carling is always shite... the worst of the poor 4% lagers :)

Not my drink of choice but I was driving. It was super shite though, even otanswell didn't finish his pint, that's saying something!

Don't think I'd fancy a curry in my pint either

prefer a fosters myself but carling is fine. When I go out I don't dbuy premium lagers. Aint worth th3extra cost

If I'm on lager instead of ale, I opt for Fosters virtually always - the exception being at the Beehive where Carlsberg is £2.50 a pint (and now i live on Prospect, that happens more regularly)

The only 'weak' lager I can drink is Becks Vier. The rest tastes like piss.

Alright game. First half we passed really well and had some good chances including two woodworks. Like someone said, not too sure about the middlemen Navarro and Miller, but Roberts really impressed me. Williams looked promising too, has a fair bit of pace in him.

Not sure what I thought of Archibald.

Use the disabled confectionery stand, right in the TE corner of the DRS. It's half the price of the other outlets. It's magical.
Isn't that illegal?

Charging different prices for disabled people and non disabled people. If it was the other way round there would be uproar.

Nah. There is a shop in the corner of the drs, with a lowered counter, which served things at half the price of elsewhere in the ground last season. Not sure how they get away with it

I got my coffee from there last night and it's the same price it's always been in the Arkells at £1.50? Or am I mistaken? Hang about I got a kitkat for 50p, is that half price? I don't get chocolate at Footy too often.  :girlgiggle:

Yeah, come to think of it it may only be the confectionery thats cheaper.

But as I don't go to the football for a meal, I'll gladly take a 50p mars bar.

Maybe it is owned by different people and they choose to charge different prices.
