Title: Columbus Crew
Post by: Zurich Red on Thursday, July 28, 2005, 17:52:15
So, as from next Tuesday Ian Woan's old club will be my local team. My beloved employer has decided to relocate my department from the Swiss paradise in which I currently work to some godforsaken hole in the middle of the US of A.

Having declined the opportunity to move there permanently, I now have to spend 3 months there teaching a bunch of American morons how to do my job. Although it won't have much impact on how I follow the adventures of Swindon Town (i.e. STFCWorld and thetownend.com), at least here I can got to the pub and watch some English football on TV. From next week it will be nothing but baseball, basketball and american football.

Has anybody spent much time in the US recently? Do they have European "soccer" on TV at all??

The only good thing...I am allowed back to Europe for a week in September so I can use my tickets for the 5th test - which not be such a good thing if it continues like last week!

Doubt you will see much beyond the top clubs though. That's all they care about over there! No understanding of the lower leagues which are adored in England and England alone!

Erm, yes ! I live in Denver - home of the Rapids. Went to see them against the Columbus Crew. Both teams were shite !

You will be able to see Premiership matches (live and repeated) on Fox Sports Network/Fox Soccer Channel. You will also probably be able to watch the games at a bar too !

Thanks everyone. I'm sure I'll go to a couple of Crew games just to see what it's like and to see if anyone remembers Ian Woan. Rest assured I will be wearing my Swindon shirt though - should be a good ice-breaker as I try to explain to people why I support a team nobody has heard of.

At least the cheerleaders should be better than the Robinettes.

There's no questions about them being better than the 11yr old Robinettes.

I bet there'll be an Irish pub somewhere close that will put the Prem games on.

... found one about 100 yards from my temporary apartment.

Haven't seen the stadium yet, but apparently it is the only purpose-built 'soccer' stadium in the US.
