Title: Weekend away
Post by: slinky on Thursday, August 2, 2012, 14:26:51
Fancy going away for the weekend and would usually go to London but don't fancy it with the Olympics being on.  Looking for suggestions of somewhere to go with plenty to see and do that doesn't cost too much.  What would you recommend?

Wouldn't let the olympics put you off if you want to go to london as it's not that bad at all at the moment.
Cardiff is decent

West London is supposed to be deserted at the moment.

You'll probably bag some bargains in London at the minute, a friend of mine has said that they've reduced prices for some shows in the west end to tempt people in.

Belfast....most buggers I meet seem to have been here there and everywhere, but never somewhere in our own country. Admittedly not been since the height of the troubles, but a great city...

Cheers, went to Uni in Cardiff so might be worth a visit.  With regards to London I just assumed I would struggle to find a hotel at such short notice as a reasonable rate.

Go to Blackpool and visit the strip club Batch(?) mentioned the other day that served Irn-Bru on tap.

I'm so intrigued by it might have to make a trip over when I go up for the Preston game in September.

I'm sure I would enjoy it but Mrs Slinky unfortunately wouldn't!

I've decided London it is and will check out the Olympics while I am there.  Just looking at hotels, what areas in west London are quiet?

Right, hotel booked in London at a bargain price of £57 a night  :beers:.  Only thing left to sort are some Olympic tickets.  Am I right in thinking you have to get these from the official site or has this changed since they started reclaiming the corporate tickets?   :2nd: :1st: :3rd:

You still have to buy from the website. And you have to be sharp as they go in a flash once they're made available!

And even when it says they are available, they invariably are not.

Newcastle - Best City in the UK.
The travel is worthwhile. Stay in a travelodge (2 decent ones in City).

Plenty to do, see and enjoy......all within walking distances.

If you can't pull in Newcastle then give up !!

Bit of a long shot but does anyone own or know of a cottage/caravan in Dorset, Devon or Cornwall that is available from this Thursday for 5/6 days. Fitzroy Simpson is looking to take his family away so trying to help him out. If anyone knows of anything could you pm me and I'll pass his/your details on. Thank you.
