Title: UK Passport
Post by: Minnesota Fats on Saturday, July 7, 2012, 09:03:36
Morning all.

I've got a Polish guy at work, whose wife is expecting their 3rd child in the next month or so, wondering if the new-born will be eligible for a UK passport? Does anyone know off-hand what the rules are as I said I'd try and find out for him. His wife is also Polish and they've been living in the UK for 4 and a half years.

Cheers.

Thanks.
He was under the impression that he had to have been resident in the UK for at least 5 years before applying for one.

He has to be nationalised as a British citizen first

And on children

Thanks all for the replies! I went down to the Post Office earlier to see what they had to say on the matter and even they didn't have a clue! Just advised me to contact the passport office!
It'd probably be easier to have him deported!

Cheers all!

And a house, car, 30K a year in benefits, free health care etc, etc, etc...

Actually the Poles are alright. The ones I have met are mostly a hard working lot who enjoy the crack and like the odd drink as well.

My Bulgarian lady friend, is applying for UK citizenship....you should see the Home Office exam, I'd fail it for sure.

Here's an example...

In Northern Ireland, social housing is provided by?

[a]. The Northern Ireland Authority
. The Northern Ireland Housing Executive
[c]. The Northern Ireland Assembly
[d]. The Northern Ireland Property Association

He is.  As soon as they have the birth cert they can get him a Blighty Passport.

As ghanimah mentioned he has to do 5 years to be nationalised as a Brit but being Polish there's not much point.

I think you're confusing immigrants and MP's.

Eligible or not, why would he want one? Are there any differences between a UK and Polish one?
