Agree it has to be charcoal.  Not sure which is best though.  I have got a Weber chimney starter which is fantastic at getting the coals hot quick.

Charcoal Briquettes are the way forward, not the shit wood stuff, Homebase and B&Q do a 5kg sack for £4, and lighter fuel rather than firelighters, in case you get thirsty  :pint:
