Title: Stratford Upon Avon Post by: Panda Paws on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, 12:52:26 Heading there for a weekend in August, anyone got any tips?
Pubs, restaurants, day-time activities that are accessible by public transport, farmers markets, nice little towns.... anything like that really. Ta. Title: Re: Stratford Upon Avon Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, 13:04:07 I was there last weekend.
We stayed at the Stratford which was a pleasant 4 star hotel within spitting distance of the train station. We ate at the Essence at the Old Red Lion which did really nice food (set menu 13.50 for 2 courses and 17.50 for 3) and the service was class. Its not very big and is nice enough to wander about. Shakespeare's house was £13.50 to get in which we didn't bother with. Last weekend was a river and boat festival and the Olympic Torch was going through on the Sunday so the place was packed, which was a little annoying at times. There are a few decent pubs on the river. We never actually went to Cox's yard, although it looked decent enough. But, in addition, you've got the RSC (worth looking up which of Shakespeare's plays is showing when you're there - it's not stuffy at all; lots of folk go in jeans etc.), Shakespeare's house (which I thought was really interesting) and the river. You can hire a rowing boats. On a sunny day, it's a really nice stretch of river.
Title: Re: Stratford Upon Avon Post by: Panda Paws on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, 18:38:45 We're heading to the RSC on the Saturday evening I think, should be decent. Defo getting a boat out on the river if it's nice, and I plan on wiling away the rest of time eating and drinking far too much, but always good to know where the best places are to do just that.
Cheers all Title: Re: Stratford Upon Avon Post by: tans on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, 19:17:58 Leamington is not far away either PP, thats a nice place
