BILLY Bodin has admitted he may have made the wrong choice in opting for club over country last weekend. http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/news/headlines/9741025.Bodin_rues_choosing_club_over_country/?ref=rss Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: Costanza on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 06:33:56 Oh Billy...

Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: janaage on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 10:01:46 If someone put Crewe ahead of my country I'd hope he'd never represent the country again. Very short term view by Billy I think. The current apathy being shown towards international football is sad I think. International football should be what it's all about.

Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: Boy About Town on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 10:48:45 An absolute penis, only wanted a medal, selfish self important youth player who rides around on the tail of his fathers success. Billy can continue to rue that when he ends up in the Ryman Leagues.
Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: leefer on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 10:58:39 Rose tinted specs me thinks.
Would be different if he had fucked off to a match to the USA he had no chance of playing in if he had been named in our squad for the playoffs. Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: Cibocchi_Is_God on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 11:03:31 An absolute penis, only wanted a medal, selfish self important youth player who rides around on the tail of his fathers success. Billy can continue to rue that when he ends up in the Ryman Leagues. Ruddy hell. Did he fuck your wife or something? Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: janaage on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 11:12:38 Think Billy was poorly advised. You're a young lad, playing in the 4th tier of the English league and you get a chance to go with your senior squad to the states. Bloody hell just for the networking opportunity he should have gone. Idiotic decision.

Idiotic decision. I agree.Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: Boy About Town on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 11:32:34 Ruddy hell. Did he fuck your wife or something? He'd be lucky. Just fed up with youth players, why moan about it? The lad doing all he can to expose himself, also he feels he should just be able to walk into our first team. Cannot imagine Paolo would have offered him a contract, completely disrespected the honour of representing his country for the chance to sit on the bench of a half filled Wembley. Enjoy your medal Billy. Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: Barry Scott on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 11:42:26 Obviously in hindsight it was the wrong thing to do, but what if Crewe were 2-0 down and he bagged a hatrick in the final 10 mins? Then he would've been vindicated and felt like god.
Either choice was a gamble, it's just unfortunate that now we can all see it was the wrong one. Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: janaage on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 12:11:41 If he'd scored 10 in the match the truth is it's still the 4th tier of English football, and so in the grand scheme of things isn't that important. To be considered good enough to be invited to the senior squad is huge. Club v country on a premier league basis I can understand, 4th division club v country is not even a difficult decision to make, whether it's Crewe, Swindon, Oxford, whoever, country should always come first.
Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: Coca Fola on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 12:13:07 Chance of playing at Wembley? - yes
Chance of playing for Wales? - no I'd have chosen Wembley. Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: janaage on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 12:20:30 Chance of playing at Wembley? - yes Chance of playing for Wales? - no I'd have chosen Wembley. If you're Welsh that post is a disgrace. If you're not Welsh that post is irrelevant. Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: janaage on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 12:28:36 Getting on for Wales isn't the point. He'd have been training with the new Welsh management watching, he'd have been mixing with other Welsh internationals. Contacts are key in this game and sitting on a sunny Wembley bench isn't going to get you far in the long run.
As I say I think this was a decision made on potential short term gain, rather than a benefit for the long term. And unfortunately it back fired. Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: Batch on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 12:35:42 I don't disagree, but maybe he was trying not to piss off Crewe in order to try and get a contract there.
Still he will have to see if it harms his long term international chances. Not very often these chances present themselves to players who have 3/4 of a season division 4 experience. Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: Coca Fola on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 12:36:56 He has more chance of another international call up than playing at Wembley again. It's a tough choice but I see why he chose Wembley.

Not very often these chances present themselves to players who have 3/4 of a season division 4 experience. Exactly. I know your day to day job is important but getting called up by your country whilst playing at this level should have been a no brainer. Oh well I'll leave it there, think I've said enough on the topic. Contacts are key in this game and sitting on a sunny Wembley bench isn't going to get you far in the long run. While i agree with that, what i would say is contracts are just as key.If he was here on a 3 year deal i think he would of gone but tbf to the lad he was playing for a contract somewhere.I am sure the powers that be will understandAs I say I think this was a decision made on potential short term gain, rather than a benefit for the long term. And unfortunately it back fired. Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: janaage on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 12:52:59 Understand that DRS, have to finally add that I'm coming from the angle of being a huge international football fan. Love it, and the idea of representing my country would pretty much be the ultimate dream of mine. Yeah playing for a club would be great, but standing there belting out the national anthem and then playing for your country, nothing would beat that.
Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: DV on Saturday, June 2, 2012, 12:59:18 Training with Wales and maybe making a 48 second cameo at the end of a pointless meaningless game wont pay the bills or earn you any money for the next 2 to 3 years. Billy has to look after himself, so that means doing all he can he earn himself a decent professional contract.
As for club or country, no contest - club every time. Country can fuck off and do one... Does noone think that Bodin (or his father) got in touch with the Welsh FA to explain the situation and ask advice on what he should do or what the repercussions might be?
Its newspaper talk as there is no footie to fill the pages! Anyone know if this is a first for a pro player? Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: DV on Sunday, June 3, 2012, 10:30:14 Did he actually get a winners medal?
Obviously he wasnt here when the trophy got presented. Was there one kept back for him? does anyone know? Its newspaper talk as there is no footie to fill the pages! Likewise, did he not ask Crewe if he was likely to be playing? I think Billy played 6 minutes of football in all 3 of the play off games. That would be quite an achievement Title: Re: Adver News: Bodin rues choosing club over country Post by: Coca Fola on Sunday, June 3, 2012, 16:19:50 Billy Bodin may have had opportunities as the son of Paul but he's definitely not looked out of place as a professional footballer thus far.
