Who honestly gives a toss!

Anyone who thinks that we as a national team have any chance against talented teams is deluded!!

All we will end up with is the same lame pathetic excuses why we lost again.

Different manager same s**t!!!

Not really, I just find International football especially England rather tedious and a complete waste of two hours

I'm watching.  I always do.  I can understand those who can think of better things to do - leaving comments on here about not wanting to waste a couple of hours of your life says to me that you might as well watch it - I'm not sure you actually have anything better to do.

I think we look OK.  We haven't always gone long to Carroll, and we've tried to keep possession.  Good goal from Young.

Everyone slags off England, but when the tournament starts they will be on the bandwagon as watching the Euros is the only thing that most football fans will be watching.

They'll slag them off when they lose and be patriotic when we win.  Quite looking forward to this tournament for once because I have no expectations so can't be disapointed, can only be pleasantly surprised if we progress.

People will be on here moaning for the next 3 months saying they can't wait for the football season to start, so why not watch it?  Easy to slag them off because it is the fashionable thing to do, especially since Redknapp wasn't appointed.

Before the last world cup I hadn't watched an England game for at least two years basically because of the tedium of it all, then I made the mistake of giving them one last chance and watched the Germany game, we all know what happened there. I promised myself I would never make the same mistake again

So if we get to the semis you won't watch, even though there is no other football to watch?

Nope flip flops, too hot for the Uggs at moment.

Have been meaning to post an update about these tbh. Best pair of slippers I've ever had, I get in from work, take off the work boots, take my socks off and slip the Uggs on. The feeling of that sheepskin on the bottom of your feet is nothing short of incredible.

Give it a try chalky, I promise you'll never go back to ordinary slippers ;)

Second half went flat, as these friendlies always do.  I'm not sure we learned anything new from the game - apart from the fact that he continued with the 4 2-3-1 formation.  I think his biggest decision for the beginning of the tournament might be the three behind the main striker.  Young looks good in the middle, but that probably means Downing on the left.  I would like him to be bold and go with Young on the left, Walcott on the right and Oxlaide Chamberlain in the middle.

At times Carroll and Young linked up pretty well but after Gerrard went off there was no link between the back and front, cant play both Parker and Barry IMO.

Good to see Ox get his debut and thought jagielka played well, especially considering he knows he isnt in the sqaud

under roy england games won't get anymore exciting than that! Trouble is we lack real world class talent at the moment, we'll struggle to dominate france and sweden, possibly even ukraine at home! sitting back and being hard to breakdown is the way forward at the euros this year. A potential snorefest is the only way we'll do well

Looks like Woy, will take the Otto Rehhagel approach....a big bugger up front and then ten behind the ball and try and bore the opposition to death.  Chelsea won the Champion's League that way, but pretty it wont be.

Didn't see the game, but surely it wasn't that bad. It was a bit of a scratch side anyway.

Pluses for me were, Carrol, Young and Ox.

Jones is a liability, as is Barry and Downing.  Walcott did what he usually does, provide great impact with no end product.

Micah Richards and Adam Johnson should be in the squad IMO, I would probably have Jones in the squad as the replacement for Barry.

He's about 3 times better than Stuart Downing. More pace, skill, and a better cross and shot. Must take Johnson and must leave Downing at home.

Thats got to be the equivalent of getting in from work, taking the suit off and putting on a nice sequined dress. I'm not a transvestite.
Tonight Matthew I'm going to be Danny La Rue in my Uggs.

Only 10 starts for City this season.

Surely an illustration that the Premier League can't be beneficial to the national team when so many of our better players are spending time sitting on the bench and potential players of the future biding their time in reserve squads.

Strange isn't it...Capello didn't like Johnson, Woy doesn't like Johnson, and Mancini has his doubts. Yet Downing has started the last 7 or 8 England games and King Kenny was happy to spend 20 mill on him.

All of which tends to suggest we, as mere fans, probably know fuck all.

Downing didn't have a good season but i don't get all the bashing he gets. He was superb for Villa the season before and look how they went backwards with him and Young gone. I would have taken Johnson but Downing aitn as bad as he's being made out to be

Title: Re: Norway V England
Post by: oxford_fan on Sunday, May 27, 2012, 09:31:52
I think that's the problem arriba. The majority of us would take Adam Johnson, but Downing seems to be being played ahead of him.

Young can play on the left of the three attacking midfielders, and Johnson too, or Ox. So I wouldn't have Downing near my squad, there are too many other better options.

He has had a terrible season he got no assists and hasn't scored at all this season. I think based on his performances this season it maybe warranted. To be fair though he was in a shit liverpool team. Maybe a decent manager can get something out of him

The Downing obsession is bizarre, especially when it extends to Tyldesley, who kept on calling Johnson, Downing, after he replaced him.  :)

This is where being the England manager becomes a problem. The majority want players to be picked on form not name, now i agree with most that johnson and richards should be in the team but when you look at it closely they really have not played enough minutes in the last few months to warrant a place. Both need to leave city asap or run the risk of ending up the way of players like joe cole, scott parker and glenn johnson to a point.

OK there has to be some sort of balance, between playing and resting, but for me, the a perennial problem for England is that the players are knackered.  Fellas such as Richards and Johnson, should be quite fresh.

If that is Carroll in form then we are in trouble.

He's only in the squad due to our lack of other options but once Rooney returns I hope we play him upfront on his own as the rest of the strikers aren't good enough.

Thats bollocks chris. It's very easy to jump on the carroll is shit bandwagon but the fact is he has played well lately. As for he is going because of rooney, how so? Ask Haangaland(sp) how he thought Carroll played last night.

Title: Re: Norway V England
Post by: Dr Pierre Chang on Sunday, May 27, 2012, 18:17:12
Wasn't impressed with him last night. Not saying he is shit but he is not international quality and his transfer to Liverpool will go down as the most laughable of all time. He may have played well lately but he hasn't been scoring for fun - his record is piss poor.

I didn't say he is going because of Rooney, he is only going because England have poor options up front beyond Rooney.

Out of the 'big' type strikers that could have gone, Crouch, Holt and Carroll, I can see why he was picked ahead of them due to age but he wouldn't be anywhere near the starting 11 for me.

I would rate our strikers in order as Rooney, Defoe, Sturridge, Welbeck and they are the four I would have taken.
