Smith 'gutted' to be leaving Swindon
           

  PHIL Smith has opened up about his release by Swindon Town, saying he is desperately disappointed to be leaving “a big part of his life” behind as he moves on to pastures new.

I know some may see this as an opportunity to regale us with your mistakes (yawn) but you have gone the extra mile for the club outside of football, have by all accounts been a model professional and have been critical in Town making its two (ultimately disappointing and Smithless) recent Wembley appearances.   

The Valley where you immaculately stepped up to the plate will live forever in the memory.

Don't go back to Creepy and play a blinder against us but otherwise Good luck Smithy.

Everybody deserves to be told to their face by their Boss that it's time.

A few clangers but the valley alone means he's a player we will remember fondly.

He looked miserable as sin throughout the Port Vale celebrations. I suppose a prolonged departure can't be fun.

By no means a Smith fan but the least he could have got was a kind word in the ear by the boss.

It's not something you can put on Dean, especially if you know your days are numbered

Actually thinking about it, it's not something I envy about being a player, never knowing if your contract is going to be renewed. I know they get payed well, but the uncertainty is a different matter

That's my point though,Clubs just been promoted and he has a face like a slapped ass.

If he had been a better keeper he would have been playing & we wouldn't have signed Wes.

Up until his parting shot at PDC being gutless I would have wished him all the best.

i've always thought smith looked grumpy. think its just the way he looks rather than him being that way

I have fond memories of charlton away but smith isn't part of it.  Probably because ever since he let a ball go straight through his body at home to leeds I can't recall anything but shit from Smith.  He should of gone at least 2 years ago if not longer. 

Talk about sour grapes he should be thankful he got as long as he did.

Yep I'm another one that looks miserable.  Does make it difficult for people as even when I'm happy I look miserable.

I will try that.  I have tried the elastic band smiling kit in the past with some success.

Then you memory is way too selective - what with him being the best player on the pitch and the number 1 main reason why we won that night. Without him we'd have lost.

Should have never been dropped for Wembley but thats all history now.

I think he was a decent keeper for us - his decent performances out weighed the howlers but he did make them, like all keepers.

I wish him all the best and all that.

Agreed DV. All keepers make mistakes, doesn't make it right but at least Smithy admit his unlike some others.

Personally would have kept him as back up, would not really like to go down the David James route.

Why the fuck would we sign David James? We do not need him

Another in the long line of Town keepers who played well but became a bit crap at the end Evans,Talia,Mildenhall.....

We need another 'keeper but I can't see someone like James being pleased playing reserve goalie.

I would have kept hold of Smith, reliable back up.
