Liverpool expect an announcement today on Kennys future after his meeting with FSG in Boston.

My money is on him leaving.

In the mind of Scoucers, Liverpool still are a massive club as in a major player on the world stage.  They will want a name.  Rafa Benetez is always blabbing on how he loves Liverpool as still is up there all the time.  He can pop in remind them how he fluked a champions league win and bag himself a job.  Dont think AVB would be the worst shout either.  Seeing Steve Clarke in the list is funny ...... Could he be Liverpools answer to Steve Keen?  :D

Growing up with a dad in the Scots DG's every squaddies name was either Rab, Tam or Sandy.

I reckon the Suarez affair was the final straw, the owners won't have been happy having to step in to clean up the mess especially after they had backed Dalglish in his handling of it and they won't have liked the damage to Liverpool's image.

Difficult to see them attracting a high profile manager. Not sure why Martinez is being linked with it, reckon Lambert or even Adkins would be a better wild card choice. Problem is their fans won't be happy, they still think they're up with the big clubs when in reality they are way behind them.

Dalglish's handling of that saga was atrocious.

Financially they are not far behind though.Awful league finish this year yes but suggesting names like adkins is a bit silly.A few years ago they had one of the best midfields in the world so i can sort of understand them wanting a manager who will field a stronger midfield than shelvey,spearing,downing and henderson

I don't think suggesting Adkins is any sillier than Martinez, which was my point. Liverpool don't have the financial backing that Chelsea and Man City have, the fan base that Man Utd have nor the manager that Arsenal have - they are off the pace without the finances to close the gap quickly.

Their fans need a reality check, they ain't competing with the big clubs any more and Dalglish is a blundering old man.

Martinez has worked his way up from Swansea and kept Wigan up when time and time again on limited resources. Rodgers and Lambert have only had a season each in the top flight and things could go tits up for the next year so i'd wait to see how they do. Too early for a big job for either of them i think.
Job looks perfect for martinez in his and Liverpool's regard. He'll get them playing attractive football and has proven he is loyal and articulate.

I like the way they wanted him out, and now hes gone they all say they are devastaed and that he is still the king 8)

The fans are living on past memories. Dalglish fucked off the first time 20 years ago when he knew what a massive rebuilding job that was needed...which they've never completed ever since.

And there was me thinking that there was 21 months between the two events.

If he had left after the cup final in 1989 I would have agreed, but waiting almost two years when there was no doubt that the team was in decline does point towards him throwing in the towel because he didn't have it in him to rebuild.

Try reading his book, the chapter on Hillsborough makes very clear the emotional price he paid after Hillsborough and that the heavy burden of leading the club through difficult times - so much so it lead to his ill-health and him taking it out on his own kids. And so what if took 21 months? Grief, PTSD, tragedies etc don't clear themselves up after 6 weeks.

That could be a cracking job but the pressure will be intolerable if they get off to a crap start.  Hope the Yanks give him the time he needs as his teams do play some attractive football.

He'd have been stupid turning it down. Worse case scenario is it turns to shit and he gets sacked after 3 months, walking away with the rest of his 3 year contract paid up. I'd put up with loads of shit from the fans for that kind of pay off.

He'll get them playing attractive football which will be a big help, plus I'm sure he'll get more time than a big name manager would have to start getting the results - expectations won't be quite as high. Think they're in cloud cuckoo land if they aim for Champions League qualification next season, can't see it happening.

Agreed, top six should be their goal and even that will require some pretty major investment.  I wonder if the Swansea-Sigurdsson deal will fall through and we see him in a red short next season?
