Title: No end of season DVD
Post by: Coca Fola on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 17:58:09
Poor decision by the club, demand would have been high for this. We make a DVD for a failed playoff campaign but not for a title winning one..

Title: Re: No end of season DVD
Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 18:00:28
We have absolutely no idea about how commercially viable it would have been to make

Title: Re: No end of season DVD
Post by: Berniman on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 18:24:42
Apparently it would cost £7k to make.

Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 18:35:47
Doesn't seem an awful lot, but I guess a lot would depend on how many copies they think they could sell.

Title: Re: No end of season DVD
Post by: suttonred on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 18:37:02
So would have had to sell approx 700 to break even. Would have sold way more than that, someone got the maths wrong.

To be fair cola fola does make a very good point

Post by: Hoboken on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 18:40:13
this is crazy. Only our 4th championship and no DVD? I still haven't watch the playoff-final DVD, and was just thinking today that this season's DVD would be a good antidote to that one. I guess I will have to wait until our next championship season before I can watch the other one...

Just get stfcinbmth to burn one

Title: Re: No end of season DVD
Post by: Langers on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 18:43:29
So we had one for the failed play-off season but not one for the Championship winning season. Bizzare.

Post by: Uncletrunx on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 18:50:44
Worth raising a petition to prove demand?

Or if there's enough footage out there (sky matches, football league show, etc) could an unofficial collection of season highlights be put together which could then be burned to CD quite easily?

Title: Re: No end of season DVD
Post by: blinkpip on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 19:00:05
They could produce one easily for less, doesn't have to be brilliant, just all the goals and a few interviews. Not fussed on commentary (could use the radio)

They're petitioning on the Swindon Town FC Facebook page to get the club to make one.

People still buy these? Just  rip the highlights of STFC Player

Oh phew, I was hoping for a minor decision to be made that we can all moan about.

I agree. I like the idea of it, but I'd never buy one and if I did I wouldn't watch it. If the club only makes a few quid or perhaps a small loss, it doesn't make sense. If it costs £7k just to make, then the costs do look a bit large for it to be worth it.

I haven't complained, but will do.  I will also buy one...if I get the chance.

This really should have been a statement, and released on Friday at 5pm.  I'm more disappointed in the lack of respect for tradition.

They clearly made a small loss on the failed play off season review and think it's not worth it....which is ridiculous as it's completely different.

That doesn't put a swiftly made DVD with no extras on my lap though does it?

Think there are bigger things on the clubs priority list to be fair

As someone has already mentioned, it shouldn't matter if the club make a tiny loss on it. It's the statement of intent.

I couldn't bear to watch the play-off season one in the end, but this is a bit different.  But... if it's anything like the one they did in 06-07 last time we were promoted... one word: shoddy!! ;D

Apparently there is 700 left over from the playoff season, don't know how many were made but that's a lot of copies that went unsold.

Title: Re: No end of season DVD
Post by: Berniman on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 21:44:14
I would buy one.  I assume the £7k cost is the cost just to make the film, probably licence fees of footage and the cost of the company putting it together and producing a sleeve.  That won't include the purchasing of the stock I wouldn't have thought.

700 at £15 a pop is £10.5k, probably not enough to cover costs.

If they are worried about costs can there not be Pre sale type of thing where they say it will be made once cost are covered, have a cut off date if the pre sales are not enough refunds to the people that ordered. I have seen this model work with several bands for CDs and DVDs in the past

It seems odd not to do one. I'd imagine it would sell well and a lot better than the play off season DVD.

This season has a happy ending and Paolo Di Canio.

Why anyone would want to watch our play off season all the way through again just to see us not turn up at Wembley and lose?

For me, Leeds away, Soton away. Yes, I can see the goals on YouTube, but I'd like to see them on a decent picture. Oh, yes, Charlton playoff games too...Go on then...I'd also watch 'the bobble' in the hope that this time the ball goes in...

I actually emailed the club earlier in the week about if there was going to be a DVD this year, mainly because I wanted to get it for my Dad for Fathers day. I had this response today, thought I would share it. If we dont get one im sure he will appreciate a new scarf instead  :)

"As of yet we haven’t produced a DVD of the season, however this is currently in discussions,
A report will be posted on the website as soon as we have more information on this, and if or when this will be on sale"

Won't be getting one myself, but nice to see this board are showing they are attentive to the fans feelings on matters like this. Would imagine the positive fan reaction to the FA Cup kit inspired next season's choice to go for white shorts also.

Not massive issues one way or the other, but a nice touch nonetheless.
