Hope he does well in the remainder of his careerTitle: Re: Departing players Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 20:24:00 abdul said what? Please Release Let Me Go.......originally sung by Englebert Humperdinck....who bizarrely is representing Royaume Uni...in the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest, to be held more bizarrely in Baku, Azerbaijan. Hope he does well in the remainder of his career i do get the feeling this isn't the last we've seen of him. Paolo liked him :doh:Title: Re: Departing players Post by: chubbslovesbeer on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 20:26:59 Murray gone back to Ipswich  Will get loaned out to another league 1 side then score against us like they all do. >:(Title: Re: Departing players Post by: tans on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 20:38:56 Considering the season has ended i am not entirely suprised hes gone back to his club...
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: LittleRed on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 20:43:36 I was pleased that he gave 100% every game but for me he wasn't an answer to our striker search. Too small and light weight and also took the place of Connell too much. Paolo seems to love him, he must train like a madman. Unfortunately I reckon paolo will want to make his move permenant. I'm not a fan of murray
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: Costanza on Thursday, May 10, 2012, 20:45:45 People are quick to slate players who helped us win promotion but kick off when they can't get a DVD of games these players participated in.
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: THE FLASH on Friday, May 11, 2012, 06:26:09 I wish Murray well.....but not with us thanks.
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: LittleRed on Friday, May 11, 2012, 06:33:03 I wish Murray well.....but not with us thanks. My thoughts exactly Title: Re: Departing players Post by: suttonred on Friday, May 11, 2012, 08:07:53 Always put the effort in, but very often made poor choices when in good positions, only young so should improve, but probably wont play above L1/2 level.
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Friday, May 11, 2012, 19:15:10 So presumably we will need to find another scapegoat when Connell isn't in the starting XI now then ;)
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: LittleRed on Saturday, May 12, 2012, 06:17:11 It's a bit harsh putting a goat ahead of Murray but I can see where your coming from

(For the record I think Rooney's good.) (For the record I think Rooney's good.) I agree on both counts. Don't get this Rooney dislike at all. Title: Re: Re: Departing players Post by: pericarp on Saturday, May 12, 2012, 19:56:54 Perhaps its the way he runs or his hairstyle. Nothing football related
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: walcot red on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 08:54:50 i like rooney he has shown what he can do, although at times it did look like he huffed and puffed his way through some matches. it will be good to see what he can do after a full pre-season under his belt
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: cheltred69 on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 09:53:58 I don't dislike Rooney at all. He always seems to try and I've not noticed a bad attitude in any way.
However, I remain to be impressed by the end product and to be convinced that he is currently good enough for a team challenging at the sharp end in League 1. Listening to PdC's interviews though it seems that he believes Ronney has so much more that he can offer. I'm hopeful that with some good coaching and a full pre-season with Paolo and the team he can kick on and fulfil his obvious potential. He's very raw, and their is obvious potential there, but if he doesn't improve I don't think he'll make much of an impact in league one. He's very one-dimensional, head down and run. I can see why Gills labelled him an impact player. I don't think he's benefited much from paying on the left either. Unlike Ritchie, Holmes and De Vita, who can all use both feet (to varying degree's), Rooneys left foot is very much only for standing on. Title: Re: Departing players Post by: kaufman on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 10:12:03 Rooney 2nd on our assists chart with 7, Richie out in front with 17.
Holmes with 2 and played 9 games less than Rooney I like Rooney, I like Holmes. Title: Re: Departing players Post by: Chippy Red on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 10:27:37 On Gabilonda i think he was a bit harsh done by in that i think hes an out and out right winger. Playing on the left doesnt suite him i dont think. He wants to go outside his full back and cross rather than cut inside and shoot.
I think PDC would love to get rid of Lanzano, Chibboci, Gabilondo, J.Smith, Easy jet, Karouche, Connell and Magera. I really dont think PDC rates alan connell. All season he has been going nuts when connell doesnt hold the ball up. And he has been piss poor at times in doing that. And in his decision making. Reason connell gets subbed in almost every game he starts is he isnt that good. The clamour among town fans for him to play baffles me. Hes not much better than murry. PDC knows what he wants to see from his strikers and connell isnt up to that. IF plan A is still in place about trying to go up again then the quality has to go up ALOT. And especially upfront. When we got to the play off final 2 years ago we had 27 goal paynter and 20 goal charlie. Do we have anything near thier quality now ? Not even benson is as good as they were then. You have players for the level your at. If you go up and want to do so again. You have to get rid of the players who wont be up to it and get in thoes who are. Years back Macari had David Cole along side Calderwood. He played all year and won a championship medal. He played 3 games in what is now Div1 and was sold to Torquay. His replacement Tim Parkin won player of the year at end of season where we of course went up again. Depends on what the budget is, I believe Cibbocci and Connell will still be here, probably J. Smith as well. Cibbocci was quite badly injured at the end of the season - believe he was taken from the gym in an ambulance, Smith is still very raw, don't forget he was at Forest Green about three years ago, Connell will be a bench-warmer at best, but is worth hanging on to for that reason. Unless, of course, there is a big transfer budget which may then see them leave if better replacements are available. Cox is another I think may go in a re-shuffle.I think PDC would love to get rid of Lanzano, Chibboci, Gabilondo, J.Smith, Easy jet, Karouche, Connell and Magera. PDC knows what he wants to see from his strikers and connell isnt up to that [/quote] It's been obvious for months that PDC has had some sort of problem with Connell, but I totally disagree with some of your comments. You seem to have conveniently forgotton that he's our joint top scorer, who scored crucial goals and won us a number of games? The same can't be said for Murray and the stats back this up. At times he was subbed after making an error, yet I've sat through games where Murray or someone else (Risser as an example) has made continually poor decisions and been left on. That is what I and other supporters got pissed off with. Title: Re: Departing players Post by: Flashheart on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 12:13:21 It's because Polo doesn't know what he is doing and many of the fans know better.

Haha this Title: Re: Departing players Post by: Nemo on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 13:36:22 People keep pointing out that Connell is our joint top scorer but he's basically the only striker who's been at the club all season. His goals per game must be fairly similar to Murray and much worse than Benson.
I think he's a decent option off the bench but little more. His goals per game must be fairly similar to Murray and much worse than Benson. I think he's a decent option off the bench but little more. Think that will be his role next season at best. Wouldn't be surprised if he went elsewhere to be honest Title: Re: Re: Departing players Post by: london_red on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 14:02:45 Worked hard, never moaned even when he was in and out of the team, and scored some vital goals for us. Whether he stays or goes he was an important part of us getting promotion this season.
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: kerry red on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 14:04:44 I agree. What would be called a player's player
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: Peacocks-Lucky-Coat on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 14:43:59 Bollocks, Connell is way better than Murray
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: kerry red on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 14:48:00 I was referring to Connell
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: Peacocks-Lucky-Coat on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 14:57:57 I know sorry, was reffering to some posts above
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: Batch on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 15:02:57 Bollocks, Connell is way better than Murray Clearly. Murray has good movement at times and may turn out to be an excellent player, but mostly for us he looked as much as a threat towards goal as Perricard. Connell I'm not convinced is up to league 1 standard, and some games he was anonymous. But he knows where the goal is and is a 100%. To take him off after 20 minutes for one misplaced pass at the Gills was frankly wrong. Title: Re: Departing players Post by: Berniman on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 18:21:21 My only frustration with Rooney is he cuts inside everytime. He doesn't try to hit the bye line once and a while. 10 mins into a game and any decent fullback will have him in his pocket. The fullbacks will be better next season.
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: Coca Fola on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 18:21:34 Connell is a good squad player to have. He's been in and out of the side this season and still managed 13 goals. If he had started more often and not been subbed off so early he could quite easily have got 20 odd goals.
Title: Re: Departing players Post by: tans on Sunday, May 13, 2012, 18:42:06 My only frustration with Rooney is he cuts inside everytime. Hes playing the wrong side isnt he? Title: Re: Departing players Post by: Berniman on Monday, May 14, 2012, 09:35:34 Well he has had some pretty decent shots with his left foot so he should be able to use it to cross too.
