Title: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: News Monkey on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 06:00:05 O'Kane is on Town's radar
SWINDON Town have been interested in signing Eunan O’Kane since January but no formal bid has yet been lodged for the midfielder, the Advertiser understands. http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/news/headlines/9692407.O_Kane_is_on_Town_s_radar/?ref=rss Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Ardiles on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 08:09:41 If I was Martin Ling, or any of Torquay's players or fans, I would be livid about this story. They are in the play offs - and running a story like this shows a complete lack of respect. Very bad timing. It's going to be a long summer. Could this not have waited a few weeks?

Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Costanza on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 08:15:21 There are no quotes in either the Sky Sports or Advertiser reports so, at this moment in time, Swindon haven't done anything wrong... Yet.
Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: DRS on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 08:20:36 Not our fucking fault is it.We enquired in january,we have not commented on it once.Someone his end has clearly informed sky.
Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 08:47:07 DRS is right, the story came from sky.
I read one comment on their forum that seemed to think the leak probably came from their own board. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Arriba on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 08:50:52 Alot of people within football are not exactly shy when talking gossip.
Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: LittleRed on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:01:49 When are we likely to hear paolo has had the confirmation he desires about next years plans. I definitely think that adding additional quality is a must. Jpt confirmed the need to me.

Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:06:56 When are we likely to hear paolo has had the confirmation he desires about next years plans. I definitely think that adding additional quality is a must. Jpt confirmed the need to me. And what did you make of the wins against Udders, Bristol city, Exeter and Wigan? Yes, we'll strengthen. Of course we will. But citing the JPT as confirmation we need to strengthen is just plain silly. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Costanza on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:14:27 No harm in citing the JPT.
Wembley was a healthy reminder of what could happen. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Trashbat? on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:16:33 I get the feeling this is the player pushing for a move or a better contract through his agent by leaking a story to Sky. Swindon would gain nothing by making this public, as the Sky article mentions Championship clubs interested and a £200k release fee which would just alert bigger clubs than us to him.
The Adver have just reported on the story and we all know if they hadn't we would be saying how crap they are for not picking up on the Sky story. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:16:39 No harm in citing the JPT. Wembley was a healthy reminder of what could happen. By that logic though, this squad could also survive the premiership. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: bobby barnes jink on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:19:20 We lost to a team from the league higher who out-muscled us and got wise to our main source of chances - decent work down each flank. Why is that not a good enough reason to strengthen? Granted we were below par, played two new players and missed key ones but that in itself is reason to add depth, or am I missing something? JPT was an eye-opener of sorts.
Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:25:40 I'm not saying we shouldn't strengthen, of course we should.
I'm saying it's foolish to take into consideration only one result against higher league opposition and ignoring the rest. It's like saying Chesterfield beat us, so they must be better than us. In which case we must also be better then Bristol City, Exter, Huddersfield and Wigan. (but worse than Leicester). It's a flawed and nonsense logic. We also lost to some League 2 teams this season, does that mean we are not good enough for league 2? Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Costanza on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:27:06 By that logic though, this squad could also survive the premiership. We'll never know (for Oxford/rival fans reading this, I don't think we're worthy of Premier League) but you could easily argue that Norwich and Swansea have 3rd tier players in the Premier League and it's not done them any harm has it? The guys point was hardly ridiculous and there was no need to shoot him down. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Trashbat? on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:27:21 We also lost to some League 2 teams this season, does that mean we are not good enough for league 2? We lost to Macclesfield so that must mean we are Conference material at best Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:28:39 We lost to Macclesfield so that must mean we are Conference material at best Exactly Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:31:53 I can't stand all this we beat Wigan, Wigan beat Man Utd, Man Utd beat Chelsea, Chelsea beat Barcelona so we're the best team in the world bollocks.
Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:33:06 We'll never know (for Oxford/rival fans reading this, I don't think we're worthy of Premier League) but you could easily argue that Norwich and Swansea have 3rd tier players in the Premier League and it's not done them any harm has it? The guys point was hardly ridiculous and there was no need to shoot him down. It is a ludicrous logic though. And I was in no way suggesting we are worthy of the premiership, I was in no way being serious. To suggest we could hack it in the premiership with this squad IS ludicrous, which is largely my point. It's like the whole 'we beat wigan, wigan beat liverpool....... Chelsea beat Barca so' we're the best team in the world thing. Utter nonsense * edit samdy beat me to that bit Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: DMR on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:45:47 Chesterfield are fucking useless, we just gassed it on the day, anyone who perceives them to be the L1 standard we need to aspire to is a clueless spastic.
Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Costanza on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:48:12 I walked out of the Port Vale game and came out thinking that we needed to strengthen in places and we blitzed them 5-0.
LittleRed walked out of Wembley, against a struggling L1 team, thinking that Swindon needed to strengthen. I don't think many fans left London that day disagreeing with that. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 09:52:46 I think some are deliberately missing the point.
Fuck it. I think we'll storm L1. After all we did hammer 'Udders 4-1 Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: STFC4LIFE on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 10:17:34 I think we are a Jonathan Douglas and Charlie Austin away from competing for the automatic spotts next season.
The squad we have would survive, but in my opinion wouldn't be enough to compete at the top end of the league. Everyone agrees we need to strengthen, and I would say the key areas are a holding centre midfielder and another goalscorer to play alongside Benson. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: FormerlyPlymRed on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 10:41:02 O'Kane would be a good addition for us if we could get him, seen him a few times this season.
In both games against Plymouth he tore them a new one. Scored 2 fantastic goals at Torquay and at the game in Plymouth created both of their goals. Looked very impressive Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: juddie on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 11:30:48 O'Kane was superb against us. Twice. Even when we beat them at our place he really impressed me. Bit small though, so him and Ferry would be a small pairing.
Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Coca Fola on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 12:43:01 We need a new CB to cover our current 3, a versatile midfielder who can play anywhere in midfield and another striker. That's all (providing we keep hold of everyone else).
Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Arriba on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 12:44:51 I'm guessing the players out of contract will learn their fates this week? Then the guessing can get more interesting
Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Costanza on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 12:53:02 I'm guessing the players out of contract will learn their fates this week? Then the guessing can get more interesting We are at the first (and shorter) dull part of pre-season. DULL ----> Retained Lists ----> MEGA MEGA DULL ----> Transfer Window opens Di Canio has stated that he's talking with Wray later this week so I think the absolute earliest that we'll hear anything will be Friday. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: nevillew on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 15:24:38 I can't stand all this we beat Wigan, Wigan beat Man Utd, Man Utd beat Chelsea, Chelsea beat Barcelona so we're the best team in the world bollocks. Quite - it's not conkers. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: DV on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 15:25:33 Chesterfield were never going to score in that game. We had to do it for them and thats what won them the game. One fluke of a deflection.
If we played them tomorrow, we'd beat them. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Arriba on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 16:26:29 they had a goal that should have stood disallowed and did a job on us that day. A one off maybe but still did it on the day nonetheless
Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: DRS on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 16:30:29 Although they scored 2
Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: stfcinbmth on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 19:49:56 they had a goal that should have stood disallowed and did a job on us that day. A one off maybe but still did it on the day nonetheless It's on the day that counts, and they were two goals better Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: DV on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 20:04:19 they had a goal that should have stood disallowed and did a job on us that day. A one off maybe but still did it on the day nonetheless They had an offside goal flagged offside for being offside. They did a very good job defensively no doubt about it. We were never going to score but they had bugger all upfront either Although they scored 2 Yeah the second after we'd gone to 1 at the back - which we obviously wouldnt have done had we not been 1-0 down. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Batch on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 20:08:59 They had an offside goal flagged offside for being offside. They did a very good job defensively no doubt about it. We were never going to score but they had bugger all upfront either I thought they looked fairly dangerous until Lester Jack went off injured. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: leefer on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 20:11:11 It's on the day that counts, and they were two goals better Fact is they looked good because we didn't turn up. Nothing special but they are my team to beat next year in lge2. Title: Re: Adver News: O'Kane is on Town's radar Post by: Flashheart on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 20:21:47 I thought they looked fairly dangerous until Lester Jack went off injured. I think Lester Jack made them look more dangerous than they were. They punted it up to him and he made himself a handful. I was quite impressed with him. Other than that, they were crap. They had a game plan of stopping us and other than that, and knocking the ball toward's Jack's general direction, they offered nothing. It's all very well having 2-3 players marking and closing down but it limits what you are able to do elsewhere. They were fortunate with the own goal and as DV mentioned, the second only came about as we were throwing men forward. Watching that match is what I imagine watching a few of this season's league matches to be like. (Albeit from the commentary). Playing against teams that have only the game plan of stopping us play, because they can do nowt else, and possibly getting a lucky break (or hoping their star striker can snatch something). We've lost points in L2 this season also against similar teams, we still went up as champions. Not trying to say we didn't deserve to lose, because we did. They were the better team on the day |
