I have learned today that Livingston in Scotland was/is a new town....in fact it celebrated its 50th birthday yesterday.

I knew that Stevenage and Basildon amongst others in England were new towns but never knew Livvy was a newby

Checking around the reason isn't clear, though it seems Rumania is probably now considered incorrect and one post suggests the spelling is offensive as it is used mockingly.
