Title: Scarves
Post by: bullethead on Monday, April 23, 2012, 17:11:26
Despite the last two games being not great in terms of performance they have been notable for impressive displays of scarf waving and holding aloft by the fans, particularly like the old school red and white banded ones..... maybe the club could flog a load off cheap this Saturday so that we can give Paolo and the team a sight fit for Champions  ;D
Or is that just a really lame idea on my part?

Or people could just buy them full price? They're becoming a bit of a trend now, so the club will probably look to make as much money out of them as they can.

Fair point on the price....just get a few of the shop staff out and about round the ground selling them maybe?

I left my old scarf on the train before the Wigan cup game so would probably purchase one of the red and white scarves. £10 are they?

Ebay about £7 plain red and white, quality of the one I bought is outstanding. The clubs version was sold out when I went to buy one. Could do a roaring little trade if bought say 100 and sold at a tenner!

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the scarf waving from the last two games as much as the next man, but I'm not a fan of the 'old school' red and white strips. Purely because the big clubs give them out for free and to be honest, their fans look like lemmings. Same with those poxy flags Chelsea they give away. Recently purchased a couple of older numbers off eBay, crucially with 'Swindon town fc' down the middle.

Mancini made them fashionable again.  It's an italian thing

I prefer the stripey scarves to the plain red ones to be honest.

To me Scarves held aloft or twirled adds to the atmosphere so a mixture of old and new looks good all the same. At Aldershot because the terrace was fairly dark it didn't look as good in the pictures as it was on the night. Taking scarves to matches is more of an old school thing but like the idea of having more of them at the County ground.

I think we should get real old school and wear 1970's style satin scarves.

(Tied around our wrists, obviously)

Still got an old silk scarf, the one with the ST badge on it like the one on the retro shirt from Flash. The tassels are frayed and worn though from hanging it out of the car window up and down the country. :)

Or just red and white building site tape (tied around forehead, obviously)

I used to wear replica shirts to games but ditched them a few years ago and to show my colours now I always take a scarf, would be great to see more of them at the CG, although I prefer the plain red with 'Swindon Town FC' across them, to me that's what a football scarf should be like.

i dont want to take money away from the club, but there is a company called savillerouge that sells really nice traditional footie scarves.. I bought my missus one for christmas last year...

Who said romance is dead?

And yes... we were at the CG on valentines day - I even treated her to a bovril.

Believe it or not, I have one of these.

It says 'Swindon Town' on one side and 'Robins' on the other.

to be honest, I felt a bit odd holding my scarf up at Aldershot, but it's a solidarity thing with PDC, and I always have a scarf anyway, so I'm a fan of it. When PDC leaves (or when we're mid-table next season) it'll probably stop, so let's enjoy it while we can.

I'm liking the new trend of scarves at Swindon and have several myself even if I don't take them too the games.

I also like the fact that there's quite a bit of variety between them and you see several different, sometimes from very different eras along with the later ones. Has a very natural feel to it. Liverpool have been doing it for years and it looks quality

It's far better than the very forced, plastic and cringeworthy option of everyone having matching scarves, usually because the club have decided to give them out

Newcastle United's striped scarves looked brilliant every time I saw them.

It looks pretty good, but it's all a bit plastic when the club just decides to hand them out one day and they all match. Seems like something Reading would do, if you ask me our lot at Aldershot looks better.

Agree with that - the way every Chelsea fan has the same flag at some of their games looks ridiculously tacky. The scarves at Aldershot and Gills have looked great though. Hopefully that'll continue for Port Vale and Bradford!

We need a raised scarf smiley. And one of Paolo doing his "we're going up, you're staying down" motion.

Yes, the silk scarves tied nicely round the wrist

We have a minutes silence at the start of the final home game each season to remember all the town fans who have passed away over the course of the season. good opportunity for people to hold up scarves again in tribute

Haven't had a Town scarf since I was 10 but bought one in the Town shop yesterday for this very purpose. Red and white stripes with Town crest on each end....£10.......bargain. Won't wear it to every game but definitely Saturday and Bradford (handy for those scorching places up north next season I suppose :badmood:).

Seems this will happen again. Tweet from the club sayin that turnstiles will shut at 2.50pm due to the end of season roll call.

I'm guessing they will open again afterwards
