Title: Dougie Woodman Post by: animalwilliams on Sunday, April 1, 2012, 21:30:34 Walking past the Football In The Community Office yesterday reminded me of the old Club shop with Dougie serving behind the counter. I used to run a sunday league side in the 1980's and always bought the kit from Doug even though Don Rogers was slightly cheaper. I also sold a few lottery tickets for him which always resulted in a mars bar as payment or even a choc ice in the Summer.
What was really funny was when a group of people were in his shop whoever left first he used to slag off resulting in no one wanting to leave next, just like a 2 Ronnie's sketch. A real Swindon Town character. Title: Re: Dougie Woodman Post by: jutty274 on Sunday, April 1, 2012, 22:38:22 Dougie's son mike was my old form tutor & English teacher.

I bought my first shirt in there......made by spall....he told me he wasn't going to get the sponsors put on the shirt as It would mean I would have to get one every year! Was thinking the same the other day - I always used to buy my goalkeepers gloves from him. great character. He was a proud ex Swindon player and i always feel the Town didn't do enough regarding ex players so it is nice to see the current regime changing that a bit. I can also remember chatting a fair bit to ex Town and Sheffield Wednesday player(maybe England also?) in the Rodbourne Arms many times....he ran the Post Office round the corner from there for many years. Both nice fellas with memories us lot could only dream about. |
