  PAOLO Di Canio has identified ‘one or two targets’ from League Two he would love to bring to Swindon in the summer, as the Town boss already begins his preparations for next season.

Shrewsbury's Collins is probably on that 'wanted' list.

And Pack, no doubt.

Pack will cost us loads. Don't think we'll be able to afford 400k plus.

I'm not trying to scour-monger, may never happen and I hope not,  but IF Ritchie/Caddis left for good money then maybe?

I'd hope that promotion would put paid to that happening but guess if decent bids from Champ clubs came in then you never know. As someone else said on a different thread, I'd hope there's an agreement in place that they stay until at least next Christmas. If we're doing well again then they would likely stay but if not then fair play to them.

Don't be suprised to see the money men spend a bit of cash next season.They are as excited as the fans at the moment and realise if they spend wisely we are in for anöther exciting season.

Hopefully some of that would be on better terms for the likes of Ritchie and Caddis

i don't think richie and caddis will go. I'm pretty optimistic that the players Di canio wants to keep will want to be part of next season here.
With the players identified as targets these are exciting times for the club

I think this side will want to stay and grow together - its young, its getting better, and it will challenge next season. The money men may well keep investing as if you look at our January trading it was excellent. PdC now knows what he wants. Also, we're bloody attrative to players. The Pox keep talking about financial meltdown but they forget we're building a very young team who are already worth a few quid and will be worth even more soon. If the worst happenned ( and I think we're a million miles away from it ) then losing one key player is nowhere near as bad as in previous years.
Basically, I can't see a downside at the moment. Climb on board and enjoy the ride. There is a real togetherness at the moment i've not experienced in many a year.

These are without a shadow of a doubt, the most exciting times at the club since Lou took us from Div 4 to being a hair's breadth from the old first division - and that's saying something. You could actually make a case for it being even more exciting due to how the club is now set up off the pitch as well as on.

It sure as hell has been a long time coming.

If Cheltenham stay down he will want away...there are whispers that he has agreed to come here already.

Pretty Sure James Collins of Shrewsbury will be on that list after Paolo hugging and whispering into his ear after our match against them last month

I want Nick Powell. I know he'd cost a few quid and there are clubs in the prem who are rumoured to be after him, but could make a nice investment if we got an offer accepted and no other clubs try to get him. Highly unlikely though.

Question for the older heads.  How much rebuilding did Lou undertake at the end of the 1985-86 Division Four title season?  Was the core of the side that went up again the following season the same as the one that took us up first time around?

I can't remember exactly but I do know that we started the 86/87 season at Bolton with the team completely made up of players who had played the previous season (we won 2-1 with 2 goals from Peter Coyne). We brought in a few players as the season went on, most notably Fraser Digby and Phil King. As far as I can recall, the side that beat Gills 2-0 at Selhurst Park in the play off final was still largely made up of players who had played the previous season.

To play along side, not replace.  I think we will fork out for a striker and Marlon Pack. The rest will be 'filler inners'.

If we extend Caddis, Ferry and Ritchie's contract, I'll be very happy. I want these done before we sign anyone new ideally.

We need a first-choice left back and a backup RB. I would think Ridehalgh is a possibility.

Agree about Ridehalgh actually. A back up right back would come under my category of 'filler inner' though.

Extend and keep Caddis, Ferry, Ritchie
Sign:
Ridehalgh
Pack
Parkin (Jon)
A few 'filler inners' (back up right back and so on)

Would you have Lee Holmes as well OST? or have you not included him because he's already here.

I dunno if he's playing much for Huddersfield but I'd love to see Danny Ward back here if at all possible.

Would prefer Joe Jacobson the left back of Shrewsbury, was quality agaisnt us and according to Shrews fans has been their player of the year so far.

If Ritchie did leave then signing Ward would be ace.

I was assuming that he would already be here. I think Holmes is a tremendous player. How you fit him and Ritchie and Rooney into the same team is another matter, but a nice problem for PDC to have.

Ward's not played as many games as I would have expected this season :hmmm:

Nobody has mentioned the possible return of Magera - play him in his right position and I still think he could be a good player for us

I think there's as much chance of him being at Swindon next season as there is of Gabilondo, Esijas or Lanzano.
