Title: Port Vale
Post by: Ardiles on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, 17:29:13
Looking like they could be heading in to administration.  Lucky if you're one of the other sides on the fringes of the play off places and struggling for form, I guess.

HMRC Winding up petition issued

They seem to be looking for a load to stave it off and enter administration :(

A shame to have to use my 5,000th post on this, but I have a bad feeling about this one.  We've not seen a club extinction for many years, but the omens do not look good here.  Stoke and Port Vale used to spar with each other quite effectively, but it's been horribly one sided recently.  I just can't see how Vale can have a viable future with a resurgent Stoke City right on their doorstep.

Brian Howe from the band Bad Company is in talks to buy out Pompey, isn't Robbie Williams a Vale fan? Surely he hasn't spent all his money on drink and drugs.

Port Vale's crowds were crap even in the 90's in the 2nd tier. They must have been getting an average of over 1500 away fans every game and they still only got 6000 ish.

They are a real male dominated fanbase, very oldschool. Never made 1 step into the post 1996 era.

Pretty sure Williams has a stake in the club but doesn't vote on anything.

Very sad if a club with the history of Port Vale goes under....real old school as someone said.  Such a romantic name, even if the reality is a little different!!  I hope it gets sorted for them.

Only club in the League with a name unconnected with its geographic location ('Woolwich' Arsenal excepted).

What about QPR? is there a Queens Park close to Loftus Road?

On a technicality yes as they play in Cleethorpes but did they originate in Grimsby? I don't know.

I guess our friendly Grimsby fan could let us know if he is reading!

Yeah, it's about 2 miles up the road from where they play now but I think it's where their original ground was.

Cheers, I have heard of Queens Park in Brent but didn't know if that was anything to do with QPR's roots.

How about West Ham?

I think they are actually located in East Ham

Reading are actually not in Reading either. There are so many clubs who have moved from their town centres these days though and are now five miles or more away from original grounds.
Oxford at Headington was of course a lot closer to the city than their present ground.

If Port Vale go out of business then that would be very sad.

Unless you support Stoke of course.

Port Vale will never be a threat to Stoke City again as rivals, so I disagree there is probably sympathy from their fans.

From some no doubt....many think that Oxford will never be a threat to us but no doubt many would feel a sense a glee if they went tits up......anyway as you say they are a fine old club and i reckon they will be ok.
