What's your thoughts on Alan Connell now chaps. How's he getting on. I notice that he's popping up with a few goals here and there.

I thought that we would miss Al when he went but we've unearthed another gem now in Liam Hearn who's top scorer in the BSP at the minute.

Good luck for the rest of the season, hope that you go up and hopefully we'll get back in the league next season.

He plays better for 45 (or less!) coming on as a sub then when he starts. I don't know about his goals but I would say the majority are from coming on as a sub. He is certainly our number 2 behind Benson and puts himself about well and can score with head or feet equally well.

He's decent enough as his goals show but I wish he could show it over 90mins he seems to lack concentration when not under pressure.

Imo he sets the standards for the rest of the squad.Never hear him moaning,works hard and always has a smile on his face even when dropped.I think others have seen this and learnt it is the best way.

I also think that of the other options he seems to be the one that plays best with Benson

We did well to hold onto him on transfer deadline day. I think it's only because we are going to get around £600k from Ryan Bennetts transfer from Peterborough to Norwich that he didn't go.

Not sure how true it is but we allegedly turned down a £500k bid for him on transfer deadline day.

We certainly are. Took us a while to get going (a bit like yourselves) but 10 wins and 2 draws in the last 12 games have given us a great shout of making the play-off. It's in our hands and at this stage of the season that's all you can ask for really.

Correct,lot of respect for the bloke and the two goals early doors v Rotherham were pivotal.....we we 2-1 down on the box and his cameo from the subs bench was vital.

He's definitely a big game player...2 against Rotherham, Shrewsbury. Great header against Wigan in the cup.

Always seems to be in the right place at the right time on the big occasion, and keeps his composure.

Having watched him closely, his ability to make a yard of space in the box is quality - and shows the benefits of plenty of lower league experience.

Good to hear that he's still doing well. It's not often you get a player with the attitude and likeability of Connell. Here's hoping he keeps scoring the goals for you.

I must say that I have kept an eye on your results this season and Paolo has definitely entertained me this season. ;D

He's played less games than he has deserved to IMHO, and gets subbed a fair bit.

Yet his attitude is spot on, at least in public. He just seems to want to work hard and score goals. And he can.

So what's not to like about AC?

And hopefully singing back in the league next year. To be honest it hasn't been as bad as I expected down here. The main difference is the friendliness of other clubs at away games and it's also given me the chance to add about 20 new grounds to my list. 2 seasons is long enough though, so hopefully we can continue our good form right to the end of the season. It's just a shame we only won about 3 of our first 15 games or else we would be challenging right at the top.

I remember Mendonca. Swindon v Grimsby used to be quite a fixture as we were often promotion rivals.

I really like the fella as a man and a footballer. Doesn't get enough time on the pitch imo and never lets the team down when he plays.

And not so long ago either. It was only in 2001 that we knocked Liverpool out of the League Cup at Anfield with a last minute extra-time 35 yard screamer from Liverpool fan Phil Jevons. Since then, the last 10 years or so have been all downhill, apart from a win over Spurs in The League Cup.

Yes, Clive Mendonca is a club hero and IIRC he was the only player to be voted "cult hero" for 2 teams in a BBC poll a few years back as Charlton fans voted him their "cult hero" too.

My cousin is a Season Ticket holder at Grimsby.

His Daughter was going out with a kid that used to take the drum to the game. We don't do drums at Swindon thank god.
He was close to one of your young lads that died this year. Very sad (I think he used to take a trumpet to games).
So so glad we don't have to put up with that at Swindon.........just a vocal crowd for me.

Alec Gilliatt (Gilly) is the lad with the drum. Yeah it was very sad re the trumpeter (Richard Broadley). He was diagnosed with acute leukaemia on the Sunday and passed away on the Tuesday. So quickly and such a waste of life for a talented 20 year old. It came only a couple of months after the death of another of our fans, also 20 year old who died from a rare form of cancer.

The game after Richard died was rather emotional as his name was chanted for the entire match and over 100 fans stayed behind for over half an hour after the game in which Liam Hearn presented the signed matchball he recieved for scoring 4 goals to Richard's family.
