Title: Paul Benson Post by: DV on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 10:02:26 1. This January has easily been our best with regards to the transfer window with the signings of both Paul Benson and Wes Foderingham on permanent deals.
2. 80% bollocks but does anyone else think Paul Benson has a slight look of Monty Burns about him? http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/55522000/jpg/_55522946_107068833.jpg http://i3.squidoocdn.com/resize/squidoo_images/-1/lens8834841_1262925303montgomery-burns.gif 3. ...and most importantly much better than that other cunt we wanted to sign. Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 10:10:06 Your Paul Benson
You are Paul Benson And you've got the feet to maybe score two or three Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: leefer on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 10:50:16 Would say more Frank Skinner myself.
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: hobnob on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 10:51:05 and most importantly much better than that other cunt we wanted to sign. We really dodged the bullet there thank god. That's 3 or 4 goals he's got already? Looks like he'll hit his target.
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Barry Scott on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 12:50:56 I'm very pleased with our January signings, however, if we'd signed Tubbs things would be very different.
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 12:55:33 I'm very pleased with our January signings, however, if we'd signed Tubbs things would be very different. Well we couldn't have won any more games than what we have done so it wouldn't have been that different :hmmm:Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Barry Scott on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 13:02:10 Sorry, I wasn't being clear. If we'd paid £500k+ for a 27 year old never-been, I'd have been concerned at the fee and therefore slightly worried at our transfer window dealings.
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 13:05:10 Sorry, I wasn't being clear. If we'd paid £500k+ for a 27 year old never-been, I'd have been concerned at the fee and therefore slightly worried at our transfer window dealings. Got you. Yes, quite agree. Tubbs is good but lashing out that sort of cash would not have been sustainable.Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Peacocks-Lucky-Coat on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 13:07:29 Didnt Tubbs leave for 800k in the end? Not sure but I think he did... Ridiculous amount for a league 2 striker in his late twenties imo. Clarke was probably on higher wages than Benson, and seeing as we did a straight swap we probably gained a slight profit as well as a fantastic player.
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Peter Venkman on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 13:11:24 Benson is a far better player than Clarke, much better for the team.
I feel sorry for the Charlton fans, of whom I have several good friends that support them, they say Clarke is a lazy fucker who has contributed nothing since his transfer, they don't deserve to have a player like that there. Their loss is our gain :) Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: RedRag on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 13:13:59 http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/1100000/images/_1101174_nickysummerbee300.jpg or Blair... http://www.google.co.uk/url?source=imglanding&ct=img&q=http://www.swindontownfc.co.uk/javaImages/5a/81/0,,10341~3113306,00.jpg&sa=X&ei=OeNAT72RD8Gr0QXR_YWPDw&ved=0CAwQ8wc4Eg&usg=AFQjCNFJTN1YjAjoOk26ZZm66_oOU89gqw Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: kerry red on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 13:48:30 Seems like the Bornmuff ruski revolution has hit the buffers already - 2 defeats in a row.
As for Benson v Burns - Excellent! Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Processed Beats on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 13:52:15 Great player and great signing.
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Bob's Orange on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 14:07:24 Seems to be a true poacher. His last 2 goals have been scrappy 'fox in the box' type goals. Seems like he works very hard and runs into good spaces. A good signing.
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: gingernuggets on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 14:47:14 Seems to be a true poacher. His last 2 goals have been scrappy 'fox in the box' type goals. Seems like he works very hard and runs into good spaces. A good signing. On the radio after the game he said he thought that was about his 98th professional goal and that about 96 were inside the 6 yard box! Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: DV on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 15:07:48 Yeah, very much a fox in the box - exactly what we needed.
What with his age and the amount of time he's spent injured recently I did wonder whether he would be good enough and fit enough to make an instant impact. He has - 3 of his 4 goals have been winners so far. Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 15:17:57 It's his general awareness as well. That first time back heel to Bodin for example for the 'red card that wasn't' incident v Crawley was fantastic.
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: DRS on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 15:47:28 He works the channels brilliantly aswell.
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: A Gent Orange on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 15:50:22 Agreed. Benson has nous: as a runner, as a finisher, as a link man. He is the piece that was missing in our jigsaw. He is already one of our key players, along with McCormack, Ritchie, Foderingham and Ferry.
And Caddis. Really shouldn't have missed him out. Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: cheltred69 on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 16:03:11 and Caddis
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Crispy on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 19:07:02 If Benson scores, we're having a fag!
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Coca Fola on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 19:38:36 I really like Benson. Very intelligent player and the sort of striker we haven't had for a while.
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Batch on Sunday, February 19, 2012, 22:30:08 It's his general awareness as well. That's it. He may be a fox in the box, but when he was scoring for Torquay so was Benyon. But there seems to be so much more about Benson's play, the flick ons, the running the channels and he looks like he reads the game and has a bit of a footballing brain. Shame he's the wrong side of 30, but its not going to be an issue for a bit. Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: jayohaitchenn on Monday, February 20, 2012, 11:42:41 He is surprisingly quick for a big older player too.
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: mrverve on Monday, February 20, 2012, 12:28:36 He must have the smallest head in the history of football but I bloody love him
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Peter Venkman on Monday, February 20, 2012, 12:30:12 He must have the smallest head in the history of football but I bloody love him He must have one of the longest necks in football.......the "anti Gladstone Small". Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: TheSwineDon on Monday, February 20, 2012, 12:30:59 This is the nicest thread I've seen on here.. Benson! ;D
Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: DV on Monday, February 20, 2012, 12:43:18 He must have one of the longest necks in football.......the "anti Gladstone Small". Jermaine Beckford must run him close Title: Re: Paul Benson Post by: Peter Venkman on Monday, February 20, 2012, 13:38:35 Jermaine Beckford must run him close I think we will need a tape measure to check that out :D |
