1. This January has easily been our best with regards to the transfer window with the signings of both Paul Benson and Wes Foderingham on permanent deals.

2. 80% bollocks but does anyone else think Paul Benson has a slight look of Monty Burns about him?

Unbelievably good signing, he's going to make the difference during the run in. That's 3 or 4 goals he's got already? Looks like he'll hit his target.

I'm very pleased with our January signings, however, if we'd signed Tubbs things would be very different.

Sorry, I wasn't being clear. If we'd paid £500k+ for a 27 year old never-been, I'd have been concerned at the fee and therefore slightly worried at our transfer window dealings.

Got you. Yes, quite agree. Tubbs is good but lashing out that sort of cash would not have been sustainable.

Didnt Tubbs leave for 800k in the end? Not sure but I think he did... Ridiculous amount for a league 2 striker in his late twenties imo. Clarke was probably on higher wages than Benson, and seeing as we did a straight swap we probably gained a slight profit as well as a fantastic player.

Benson is a far better player than Clarke, much better for the team.

I feel sorry for the Charlton fans, of whom I have several good friends that support them, they say Clarke is a lazy fucker who has contributed nothing since his transfer, they don't deserve to have a player like that there.

Their loss is our gain :)

As for Benson v Burns - Excellent!

Great player and great signing.

Seems to be a true poacher. His last 2 goals have been scrappy 'fox in the box' type goals. Seems like he works very hard and runs into good spaces. A good signing.

On the radio after the game he said he thought that was about his 98th professional goal and that about 96 were inside the 6 yard box!

What with his age and the amount of time he's spent injured recently I did wonder whether he would be good enough and fit enough to make an instant impact.

He has - 3 of his 4 goals have been winners so far.

It's his general awareness as well. That first time back heel to Bodin for example for the 'red card that wasn't' incident v Crawley was fantastic.

He works the channels brilliantly aswell.

Agreed. Benson has nous: as a runner, as a finisher, as a link man. He is the piece that was missing in our jigsaw. He is already one of our key players, along with McCormack, Ritchie, Foderingham and Ferry.

I really like Benson. Very intelligent player and the sort of striker we haven't had for a while.

That's it. He may be a fox in the box, but when he was scoring for Torquay so was Benyon. But there seems to be so much more about Benson's play, the flick ons, the running the channels and he looks like he reads the game and has a bit of a footballing brain.

Shame he's the wrong side of 30, but its not going to be an issue for a bit.

He is surprisingly quick for a big older player too.
