Title: SAS display @ Oxford
Post by: Flintfan on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, 13:38:52
Just heard from my contact at the Poxford mail, he says plans from pox are gathering speed about them having a huge flag stroke display for our visit. Something like the ox's head or something. I wonder if it's pink!

Any plans to counter this? Maybe create a PDC flag? Imagine his reaction when he sees it, he'd love it. It'll also piss the pox off big time!  :D

Maybe even a simple red card display?

Thoughts?

I'd go for something more subtle - an AK47 for example

Cant you just go mad with an ak 47?

It's good to see the pox will have enough fans in the ground to be able to pass a big flag around...for a change
 :)

Only in three stands, of course.

its all a bit ott and embarrassing isnt it? At the end of the day, its only a league game ffs.

Saying that though, would be good for us to get one for the jpt. Someone mail Nick.

Sounds like a good contingency plan to me. Get a big flag so they can all hide behind it and avoid watching us muller them.

Just wondering if there any arrangements for Oxford yet in terms of a special train and a designated pub.  Just deciding how to get there and whether it’s worth getting to pox much before KO.

Cheers

If ever there was a game for making your own arrangements (finding a nice village pub outside Oxford, for example) and making your way to the ground as late before kick off as you can, this is it.

Yep, although may have to travel by train, which is not conducive to a country pub.

Then prepare to have every minute of your day, from the moment you get on your train at Swindon to the moment you return there, timetabled, marshalled and dictated by Oxfordshire's finest.

Could it not just take a lead from the events of Figo's return to Barcelona after he went to Madrid...

Smuggle in an Ox's head and throw on the pitch - now that would wind them up?

That original club statement still baffles me.

'After discussions with the player, we have allowed him to talk to the club'

Bored of this now.

He's their player.  He's shown them a lot of loyalty, and will almost certainly score against us on March 3rd.  These are the only things we need to worry about now.

That original club statement still baffles me.

'After discussions with the player, we have allowed him to talk to the club'

But basically the "discussion" was the club letting Constable know their position; that they were accepting the offer and their reasons for doing so. Clearly they also told him that they were reluctantly accepting the bid, otherwise he wouldn't have stayed.

Why would they need to 'allow' him to do anything?

Why not just say 'the player will talk to the club'?. Why 'we will allow him to talk to the club'?

Very strange semantics to use for a player that didn't want the move.

*Edit

The actual quote was:

Oxford United Football Club can confirm they have received a much improved offer from Swindon Town Football Club for James Constable and after discussions with the player have given permission for him to talk to the club

Given him permission? Rather an interesting way to word it.

In all honesty, it probably is the best footballing decision for him.

With us, especially as we go up, he's likely to get found out and disappear into obscurity. At least the pox are likely to stay at his level. Big fish, small pond and all that.

Mate sent me this. I wish we could do this.  :D

"seen the thread/posts and think it's idol chatter maybe a little bit of an inkling but nowt much.

Flag is coming on well from what I hear. The badge has been drawn up ready to paint and two strips of the flag done too. The boys may be using the priory marquee for some of the work which should give an idea of size. I don't have any pictures but from what I understand it's going to be a fair old size. The fabric for the badge had filled a classroom or similar from what I could tell.

Cheers to the chaps who donated online and those who gave me a bit of cash in the priory yesterday it is much appreciated and has already been passed onto the lads to pay off the fabric

Higher numbers of part-timers is not a bad thing, even when you cherry pick the statistics. Obviously our glamour ties against Barnet on a Tuesday night et al are going to be low attendances, preceeding a game where we've sold loads of tickets.

As long as they know when to turn out, that is the main thing.

Just quote FACTs we have always attracted bigger crowds than you. Take averages when we have been in the same division as a leveller and I will let you post the stats.
I remember in the 70'80's your average home gates were often around the 4,500 mark so fair play for increasing your attendances but you have always been behind ours. Rare to see double figures but its your big day next week so enjoy it.....after that bacj to the 6000 and getting lower.
