He's saying gaining promotion is the only thing we can do, the nature of a win is very important (southend game)..

Great chance to go to Wembley as a manager, great opportunity for everyone..
He said there's no chance him going to Leeds.. but he said 'this year'.. don't know whether to read into that..?

He promised Championship football in 3 years

I worry so much. He's one of us, I know.. I need to calm the fuck down.

3 years as in 13/14 or 14/15?

Watching it on a stream at the mo: http://www.vipbox.tv/watch/1267/1/sky-sports-news-live-stream-online.html

Some quotes of what Paolo said when asked by Sky if he could be tempted to leave...

"Absolutely not this year, because I gave my word. My word is more important than a contract"

"Nobody contact me, but the fact that someone can focus their attention on me makes me very happy"

"Leeds is a fantastic club, it's a fantastic club. Every manager would go there. Until end of season for sure though I will be here"

Some good quotes, but "not this year" and "until the end of season for sure" worried me a little (perhaps unnecessarily). Really hope that if we get promoted and someone comes in, he stays and gets us into the Championship and doesn't leave us...

That was good fun.

Most questions were about the sending offs and Leeds job. He mentioned the win over Southend and called for the fans to turn up for the Barnet game. Went on for ages about his body language.

I don't think we should read much into his 'here until the end of season' comments. Obviously :)

Be a few fireworks with PdC and Ken Bates working alongside!!

PdC needs a club where he is allowed to get on with it with full support from the board.

Can't see too many other clubs giving him the freedom to manage as he gets at Swindon

Going from the Adver, it would seem the 'live' interview was considerably trimmed, as there's more than a few comments that weren't aired on Sky. Also a fair bit more regarding the end of season comments that it seems Sky selectively edited.

I see that bit aswell and we all know sky loves the drama, which is why they forgot to show that bit about him saying that.

Not worried about him leaving at the end of the season even tho SSN were trying to portray that.

Yeah, it was aimed at Benzel making the same comment again about the fact I've decided to have a year away from going every week.

Probably pre recorded it, then gave the presenter a script of what questions fitted PDC's answers.

I don't think it's done like that, you could clearly see Paolo interupting him throughout the interview and even at one point saying Adam. (Adam Leventhal was the presenter)

You do seem pretty stubborn about not going at all this season which is a bit bizarre.

I dont miss it half as much as I thought I would and I'm quite happy with playing saturdays instead. I could go back tomorrow if I really wanted to. I still support the Town but I'm also enjoying having a season without going every week and having the club almost dominate my life and moods!

Also, I expect part of the reason of sticking to my word is because no one believed I would in the first place.

My main gripe last season was the spineless way the club from top to bottom waved the white flag and just let relegation happen, very little to do with being shit and going down because I've been there before. Thankfully we've changed top to bottom and in truth the things that pissed me off last season no longer exist within the club.

Coupled with going on about how great we are when seeing it with your own eyes is beneath you. See you at Wembley? Oh... no, that's beneath you too...

You dont have to see the whole game every week to realise how good we are. The match reports from here, the adver, the radio commentary, the highlights - sure its not ideal but its more than enough to at least gauge a vague opinion.

Wembley, for the piss poor paint pot - no chance.

By League Two standards, we have spent a fair bit- Foderingham, Cox and Rooney plus Benson's wages isn't far off half a million most likely.

However, by League Two standards we generate a fucking lot of money, so it's not much of a surprise that we can spend some occasionally.

The fee for Foderingham was supposed to be around £125k, Cox £50k and Rooney £75k thats fuck all spend really (obviously unless you are broke like our neighbours), and probably covered by the live match fees from sky and the extra cup sponsorship from the People.

Add in there a fee for Timlin and Benyon both undisclosed but must add up to between £50k-£100k.

Factor in cup runs as well and most of that 350k has probably been re-couped. If we get to the JPT final it will easily outweigh the spend.

Maybe, but there is a buzz around the club that has been missing for many years. It wasn't until the last few games 2 seasons ago that people were getting really amped about our future.

That was a great season but it just didn't seem to have the same buzz around the whole club in general that it does now. Wilson or Di Canio? Di Canio is much more exciting. Plus we have the rivalry with Oxford back this season as well. The standard of football in 09/10 was slightly better though. I think a lot of people's opinions on that season are slightly tarnished by the dull and drab way it ended. If we were going to go out (as we did) at least finish on a high note. We finished on a miserable one. There's a chance we could win this league and the JPT. That will easily outweigh 09/10 for me personally.

So bloody what.

I for one am thoroughly enjoying this season. More so than the recent play-off season, and them some.

It's not just the football and winning matches, it's the while kit and kaboodle. Having a nutty yet entertaining gaffer. the Clarke saga. Constable-gate. Winding up the pox. Even losing to the pox. Seeing other teams and managers having a pop. Keeping Ritchie. Cup giant killing. And probably countless other stuff I've already forgotten.

Football is about entertainment and this season has had it by the shed load. I'll take a season like this than an average season in the Championship any time.

And the best thing is, It's not even over yet.

Maybe it's accentuated by the comparison to last year's horror show, but the combination of the way the club's being run off the pitch, the manager and his infectious enthusiasm and eccentricities, a couple of good cup runs and the hope and expectation that this could preface a really promising period in the club's history mean at least for me personally the enjoyment I've had out of this season is more than in 09/10.

I dunno, maybe it's because i'm expecting us to be up the top this season (given our resources we should be), it doesn't feel 'exciting' as much. If it carries on into next season then i'll get proper buzzed, but aside from a few games this season (southend and wigan spring to mind), this seasons been nothing more than pleasant.

Title: Re: PdC coming up on Sky Sports!
Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, February 2, 2012, 17:13:06
That was probably badly worded. What I should have said was that for me, only the southend & wigan games stand out as more enjoyable than the 09/10 season.

Title: Re: PdC coming up on Sky Sports!
Post by: DV on Thursday, February 2, 2012, 17:19:14
09/10 we were punching above our weight and beating teams with resources that drawfed ours, we were the underdogs for alot of it.

This season - we're the top dogs and the team to beat, everyone wants to talk about us just to get some column inches. At the end of the day winning this league is the minimum requirement isnt it?

Off the pitch though - I think the turning down the bids for Matt Ritchie is the moment STFC finally got its balls back - and thats impressed me more so than anything else. You only have to look at last season when we decided to sell our two most important players pretty much first chance we got and suffered for it. Football before balance sheets (to a certain extent obviously)

Whilst entertainment is good. I have to disagree football isnt about entertainment its about winning.

I see the cunts down the road are still obsessed

Fuck me, there's more Town fans on that thread than Oxford fans. Still, when an Oxford fan says, "(Swindon) Look nailed on to win the league to me", then you know you're on to a good thing. 8)

We'll see....part of me wants to give in and part of me wants to stick to my word!

I'm a stubborn cunt, which I'm sure you were all very aware of.

Life's way to short to stop yourself doing something which you love doing just to prove a point. You could drop dead tomorrow. Get back down the County Ground ASAP you daft bastard. You're missing out and you know it.

Agreed. I'd be gutted if I made a point of boycotting this season and stuck to it.

That was probably badly worded. What I should have said was that for me, only the southend & wigan games stand out as more enjoyable than the 09/10 season.

Northampton away??

Most enjoyable season to date?? It's league fucking two. As fun as it is to be winning matches, we were doing the same against better opposition two seasons ago.

It's not the division or league position that makes it exciting, it's the whole package - PDC, Wray, keeping hold of talented players and bidding for players from all our rivals (did we spend as much on players 2 seasons ago?) and playing the Pox again. Plus as others have said, we're the top dogs in L2 and everyone's talking about us. I love it.

As much as I'm enjoying this season I don't think anything has come close, results wise, to some of the games in 09/10. Beating both Leeds and southampton home & away will live long in my memory, together with the play off semi at charlton.

Having said that, there is definitely a greater buzz around the club in general this season.

I fucking love PDC!

That's pretty much the point I was going to make. I would prefer it if we were second in L1 rather than L2 but I couldn't possibly be getting any more enjoyment out of this season than what I am. I enjoyed the 85-86 Macari multi-record breaking season' more than the Premier League season. The division you're in is irrelevant when it comes to enjoyment.

OST can I ask (and could you reply to the following question) do you go to matches? Not sure why but I always assume you don't for some reason. Don't get me wrong this doesn't devalue your opinion (or devalue my opinion of your opinion) or anything like that, just genuinely interested.

To be honest I'm not even sure why I think you're a non-attender.

Whilst entertainment is good. I have to disagree football isnt about entertainment its about winning.

Not for the first, and not for the last, I 100% disagree with DV on this one. Sport is an entertainment game, if you lose the thrill of the sport it doesn't matter if you don't win.

Like others have said good to see that this season this isn't so important, as we're doing both.

Team with the most points gets promoted. Not the most entertaining team.

Yeah

They get promoted so the fans can enjoy another season of boredom in a higher league.

I watch sport to be entertained, not to grind out wins and possibly get promoted.

I appreciate you may have a different opinion, as some people like the win at all costs approach, but I don't.

Abramovich would agree. He's not after wins, he's got that, he wants wins and style hence disliking that Di Canio wannabe, José. (Like the Real fans as well.)

I also think it's why Wenger has been at Arsenal so long, the fans have been thoroughly entertained for a long time, despite the paltry silverware return.

(I'm not trying to disagree with DV here, because I wouldn't care how we got promoted or won, but our football and the entertainment is a very welcome bonus.)

Football as a industry is about winning. No question.

Football for the spectator should be, for me, more about entertainment/enjoyment. I didn't start watching Swindon Town for the victories, I did because football is brilliantly unpredictable and that my dad made me. If we all watched football for the winning then we'd all be glory supporters.

One year the entertainment can be amazing value (winning is a part of this) and some seasons it ain't. Sunrise, sunset.

Well, 'back in the day' (i.e. when I actually lived in Swindon and lived walking distance from the CG) I missed only 2 or 3 games a season (The Macari/Ardiles era) Then I moved to London and carried on in pretty much the same vein. It dwindled off a little in the ensuing years and in the last 4 or 5 seasons I've only been to a handful of games due to a combination of disilliusionment due to dire performances on the pitch (and the state of the club off it), geographical position and financial constraints. (Plus, I think you get out of the habit of going as well.)

However, 2 of those 3 are starting to look up somewhat so I hope to be getting to a lot more games in the near future (I went to Leicester last week and will probably go to Barnet next week.) I've got to say though, even though I've not been much in person this season I'm enjoying it as much any season I've experienced.

That's fair enough OST, just wondered. I need to get back into going as since my little girl arrived I've not been that much, can't bring myself to miss Saturday afternoons with her, especially as I've away quite a bit with work thesedays.  Midweek matches I'm going to try and put the effort in.

It is easy to lose the habit though.

You can lose the habit but not the love ;)

My Saturdays are very different to what they used to be but no less enjoyable. Now I'll get the commentary on the internet, get the match day thread up on here and Soccer Saturday on in the living room, listen to Paolo's post match rants and ramblings and then have a few beers later on to celebrate yet another win. Lovely.

As I said though, I will be looking to mix up a few of those types of Saturdays with a bit more 'live action' in the weeks and months to come. At the end of the day though, I feel just as passionate about STFC now as when I went to games week in week out.

Best time for years.

Everyone talking about Di Canio and Swindon.

Went to a meeting today and the 2 Directors of the Supplier I was seeing were Leicester Supporters.
Both went to the game and said we were a good side but lacked a good striker otherwise would have one.

.....and for the rocord "Your fans are bloody loud"......

Last season tested my "loyal supporter" card but this season has just been great.

Well said, if football were ONLY about winning then we would all support one of the Top 5 Premier League clubs.

I decided to stop going regularly this season after having a season ticket for 20 years since the age of 10, the main reason was to spend more time with my little boy who is 19 months old but the goings on at STFC on and off the pitch last season made it a very easy decision to make, I was so fed up with football.

For me going to football should be an enjoyable experience, yes winning helps and it's great to be at the top but I do want to be entertained in exchange for my hard earned cash. It also doesnt matter what league you are in, we are having far more fun at the top of league 2 than teams who are struggling in the prem.

I haven't been able to stay away completely this season, i've been to 4 games so far and will be going on Saturday aswell, the noticeable thing is the complete change in atmosphere around the club, there is a feel good factor and that is pretty much exclusively down to di canio, although you have to credit the board for backing him all the way. The ambition and desire we are showing to get promoted this season is just fantastic, never been more proud of my club.

Even from afar I've really enjoyed following the town this season and my love for football is well and truly back, I wont get a season ticket until my boy is old enough to come with me, but I will get to the county ground when I can and I really look forward to going now, you take it for granted when you go every week but when you only go on occasion it becomes a real event, I cannot wait for Saturday.

At the moment I'm massively looking forward to every game as a real event and I go every week, I too can't wait for Saturday and it's only Burton Albion....but that's a testament to the football/feel good factor at the moment because it's that good.

Hoping PDC sticks to his word - we all know that cunt Pappa Smurf (Bates) is obsessed with our managers (Hoddle and Wise) - he has just undermined his last manager and sold off one of their best players and then sacked him for not being top of the league. The man is a tool who thinks he can get promoted to the Prem on the cheap just because Leeds are a ''huge'' club.

And while I'm on a rant, why are the Pox running so many threads about us? Don't they have enough problems of their own to chat about?

 :hmmm:
