Title: Paolo 2012 vs Lou 1986
Post by: ChalkyWhiteIsGod on Thursday, February 2, 2012, 13:58:51
27 games in, Paolo's boys 52 points, Lou's 55.

Would be a meassive feat to equal or better Lou's 86 team record, they'd only go on to drop another 10 points all seasons (five draws, no losses, the rest wins)

Pfft, we're not going to drop that many points, don't be silly.

I have been saying all season that this season reminds me so much of that championship winning season, I see no reason why we cant go unbeaten until the end of the season now.

There does appear to be a great team spirit now with all at the club on and off the pitch, I have always had faith in PdC, even after the Saints debacle when a lot of fans were calling for him to go. I think he will become a legend at the CG.

I feel that this could possibly emulate the season under Macari in 85-86, its panning out in a very similar way as that season did way back 25 years ago.....

We started off very poorly only 2 wins and 1 draw in the first 8 games compared to 3 wins and 0 draws in the first 8 games this season.

After 15 games that season we were in 8th place and had won 8, drew 1 and lost 6 games compared to being in 7th place and won 8, drew 1 and lost 6.......coincidence? :)

The only difference is that we have scored more and conceded less than that famous season, that season we had scored 18 and let in 19 compared to this season when we have scored 25 and conceded 15 goals at the same stage.

Yes its the ramblings of a deluded old git but it does bear a striking resemblance to that season when we went on and recorded 102 points.

Also that season we scraped out a lot of 1 and 2 goal wins, sometimes against the run of play and rode our luck like at Plymouth at the weekend and there was a great team spirit as we have now and the level of fitness of the team was very high as it is now.

I think it all bodes welll for the future.

The comparisions are uncanny to 1986, bad start, unbeaten run, beating higher league teams in the cup, work rate, team spirit. And we signed a brilliant keeper.

You would if you were right and Digby hadn't signed the following season (i.e. 1986/87)

I already believed you when you said you were shit faced for much of the season but now your memory's going too man.

And yes it is/was Endersby. My bad (although i was only 9) so should be forgiven.

I remember us starting that season with Shakey Jake Findlay who had played about 200 games in the top couple of divisions with Luton and he was shite, then we got in Kenny Allen and never looked back, a bit like we have done with Wes. Kenny was a massive bloke who caught everything chucked into the box which teams used to do in div 4, high crosses for a big lump of a striker, not with Kenny in goal....perfect for the league we were in, how times have changed.

Although Lincoln would have got more in '75-'76 had there been three points for a win back then. Their record was P46 W32 D10 L4 which would have been 106 points.
