Title: SBC Council tax
Post by: Sippo on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, 11:53:30
Is this paid over 10 months if via Direct Debit? I can't remember..

When is the last payment of the year. Is it the same for everyone?

Depends when you started your payments in 2011 leefer. If you started in April like everyone should then it's only 10 payments. If you started later, they may collect in Feb and March so that you catch up.

This seems to be fairly standard practice.  My borough council (Rushmoor) here in NE Hampshire collects over 10 months from April to January inclusive as well.  Makes a noticeable difference in February and March.

It has the payment details on the annual letter. If you still have it of course

I haven't heard of a council collecting business rates or council tax in Feb and March, unless you're catching up.

Well, if they are now going to collect over eleven months then that would make our monthly payments less. Swings and roundabouts.

I believe they had a bit of a mess up last April and forgot to take some peoples (myself included) first months payment which resulted in new annual bills being sent out so i have to pay my last in Feb this year. I even called them to try paying the one they didnt take but was told i couldnt cos it would only lower the payments over the year rather than letting me finish paying as normal in January

Ours do. In Bedford it's 12 months if you pay by DD, or 10 months if you come in and pay over the counter...
