Title: Car help. Post by: SuggWillSugg MBE on Friday, January 13, 2012, 19:58:02 So I found out yesterday, I finish for my summer holidays on March 28th. (It's a hard life really...)
Over the summer so realistically April - September I would like to have the use of a car while at home, I know from before uni because i'm male and under 21 insurance is sky high (£1,900 for my 05' Clio quoted at me in August) Is there any way I could get relatively cheap cover just for the 5 months? Otherwise here's hoping Direct Line won't charge the earth to put me on mummy's insurance.. All help appreciated Title: Re: Car help. Post by: walrus on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, 12:42:20 Temp cover policies or Insure The Box might be a cheaper way to go.... Insure The Box involves putting a black box in the vehicle to record when/how you are using it, and may place restrictions on the time you can use the vehicle.
Who's car do you want to drive? Who owns it? Would they let you on their insurance (fronting)? What is your uni address? Do you get any bills/bank statements there in your name? Fronting/fraudulently using your uni address could land you in hot water if you were to make a claim, so it depends how desperate you are to get cheap insurance. Third party fire and theft or even third party only cover may be the way to go. What's your claims/conviction history like? Have you got any NCD in your name (expired or otherwise)? he wanted to go on my insurance, but no way was I having that, however if you can put someone older on the policy as a named driver the cost is reduced, as does going fully comp with some companies. (Surprising but true) Title: Re: Car help. Post by: jutty274 on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, 13:22:16 Don't go 3rd party or fire & theft as they are more expensive than fully comp now. Try money supermarket or compare the market as they use specialist insurance companies that only deal with people under 25.

Try money supermarket or compare the market as they use specialist insurance companies that only deal with people under 25. No they're not. It depends on the insurer/the risk. I work in insurance, and the only way to find a good deal is to try different permutations. There's tons of rubbish on the Internet, and it depends how bothered you are about the type of cover versus the cost. The company I work for specialise in bad risks (i.e.: you, I'm afraid!). If you want to, PM me your details (name, contact number, address and date cover required) and I'll forward them to our broker division - they'll give you a quote but won't rip you off with admin fees etc. - e.g.: they'll be a bit more sympathetic as you "know" someone who works for the Group. I haven't even looked at cars, or know how much roughly i'l have to play with for another month or so. It would be my name, and my home (Swindon) adress on the policy. Zero claims on my name, but one on a policy with my name on it. if that makes sense. I'll have a scout around and probably give you a PM nearer the time. Cheers for the help everyone! x |
