Tonight Wycombe played Aston Villa and the other week they played Chelsea. How come they managed to get such good friendlies. And dont anyone say "the elton john concert" cos we have never had as good friendlies.

There really isn't much point in playing these Prem sides......its not going to be competitive.......the days when a Rory Fallon could end the career of a Marion Pahars are long gone.....we're better off playing these non league sides, as we may well be doing it on a regular basis soon.

Have to agree Reg.  Might as well try and become a team against lesser teams.  We get beaten 7-0 every pre season cant see us being up for it start of season!

I believe you have to pay expenses for the bigger teams as well so if we got a shit crowd we would end up losing money.

Judging from the responses of people who've been to the games so far, everyone seems to have enjoyed the getting close to the action and chatting with players and staff aspect, you get from playing at this level.

Personally I like going to non league grounds where its proper grass roots.  These new grounds dont have much character.

Which  reminds me, the ground where that England U 19 game was played in Belfast was Glentoran's which I believe is called the Oval.....it reminded me of Springfield Park, as it still had terracing apart from a small covered  seating area on the side, and a grassy bank with a bit of terracing on top at the end.

Hemmed in by terraced housing with a view away to the Belfast skyline, it was a real throwback......would appear that laws made by the British Parliament don't apply here.

Notice the juxtaposition of football, religion and heavy industry....RIP Edward Heath.

Whits... you want to go to see Glentoran now don't you......it is a classic, which I guess being in NI escaped the dead hand of the Taylor Report.
