Title: So far so.......
Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 14:54:21
Another boring day at work so thought I would start off some discussion.

We have now played 24 league matches so by my reckoning have played everyone in the league.

So, who has impressed you so far, for both Swindon and the opposition.

 - Best opposition team
 - Best opposition player
 - The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far
 - The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far
 - Most enjoyable match
 - Biggest moan so far

 - Gillingham
 - Rooney - Not just saying that because were interested in him, he seriously impressed me that game. Also the entire Bradford defence impressed me.
 - Caddis
 - Lanzano
 - Northampton game
 - Struggling... probably signing Commazi.

- Best opposition team
Gills, looked like a top 3 team to me, we got lucky with the win

 - Best opposition player
Tubbs, the boy knows how to stick the ball in the onion bag

 - The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far
Foderingham, he literally hasn’t done anything wrong apart from picking up back pass.  Faultless STFC career so far...

 - The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far
Commazzi, I was expecting a stereotypical dominating Italian CB who wouldn’t give a plucky lower league striker a sniff of the goal

 - Most enjoyable match
It was only the CC but winning at the Slave Traders was so sweet.  Atmosphere was immense and post-match celebration from Paolo was legendary.  That game probably kick-started our season as well.

 - Biggest moan so far
Rocking Robin and the Cheersleaders, i made the mistake of getting to my seat 20 mins before KO yesterday, never again.

 - Based on the games i've seen, Oxford have been the best! They could have scored a shed-load and made us look poor. But this was in the early throes of the season, so i'm putting it down to us not 'gelling'

 - Tom Barkhuizen on loan at Hereford. Best player on the pitch in that game for me.

 - Although Wes has been a revelation, I want to point out Jon Smith... a new young signing making his way up the pyramid and he's been influential in the centre of the park, arguably the easiest position to look shit in (see Howe, Hewlett, Risser, Pook) and with possibly the most work to do. We (and Ferry!) do seem to miss his presence when he's missing, and he's yet to be sent off! It doesn't mean i think Smith has been our best player, but he has impressed me most. Ferry has been awesome, but most expected that given his pedigree.

 - Take your pick out of our early signings. Risser was meant to be one of the first on the teamsheet as captain, but has majorly disappointed. No point talking about Atiku/Esajas/Comazzi. Magera looks rubbish and there is a lot of expectation on his shoulders (or, there was...)

 - Southend at home. Made them look proper average, could have won by more. Huddersfield looked good, but i wasn't there.

 - Every moan i've had has been put right. Dropping players when they weren't performing, moving others on, (mainly) effective loans to plug gaps... an ongoing gripe has been the lack of consistent team selection, but we've won games, and there does now seem to be a core of the team that does remain largely settled.

Southampton
Matt Tubbs
Caddis/Foderingham/Ferry
Commazzi
Beating Barnet 4-0
Not finding a starting XI, all the chopping and changing

Only based on matches I've attended

Best opposition team - Oxford
Best opposition player - Don't really know tbh. Duberry i guess from league two, otherwise all of southamptons players.
The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far - We expected Caddis, Ferry and Ritchie to excel, and they have. Mcormack has been a revelation since moving to Centre back though
The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far - Lanzano
Most enjoyable match - Rotherham was good for entertainment, but beating City would probably top it.
Biggest moan so far - Lack of a consistent goalscorer may come to harm us come the end of the season.

 - Best opposition team - Easily Southampton. In the league, I would say Gillingham
 - Best opposition player - O'Kane for Torquay
 - The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far - Foderingham has been awesome.
 - The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far - Comazzi
 - Most enjoyable match - Either Bristol City Away or Northampton Away
 - Biggest moan so far - Not really a moan, but losing to the Pox was quite annoying...

 - Best opposition team - Gillingham

 - Best opposition player - I can't think of many to be honest, like others I though Luke Rooney looked very good, also Fraser Franks who played yesterday looked decent.

 - The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far. Paul Caddis

 - The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far. Lanzano or Esajas.

 - Most enjoyable match. Either Bristol City away or Huddersfield in the FA Cup.

 - Biggest moan so far. Not much to complain about recently. So I would say the piss poor start including the defeat to Oxford.

Like others, gonna base my review on only matches I've attended, which is very few.

- Southampton. Might've been their reserve team, but played off us the park that night with quick, slick passing, good movement and clinical finishing.

- Crewe's Nick Powell. We've all said how 3-0 flattered us on the opening day but I was very impressed by this kid, think he's relatively young too.

- Caddis, Ritchie and Ferry have all lived up to expectations but Foderingham gets this one for more. The most assured, commanding and complete goalkeeper I've seen in a Swindon shirt (Digby was before my time), it's no coincidence that our good form started around the time he joined.

- Risser. Hyped up in pre-season and then given the captaincy, I think he's fallen afoul of too much expectation. He has been truly awful.

- Northampton away. You really cannot beat last minute winners!

- Not a moan as such, but the biggest negative on the season in my eyes was the loss to the scum. I really hope to rectify that defeat at the Kassam!

 - Best opposition team - Gillingham

 - Best opposition player - Bradford's defenders

 - The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far - Aidy Flint

 - The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far - Magera

 - Most enjoyable match - Huddersfield

 - Biggest moan so far. - Ticket prices of league games, music after goals.

- Best opposition team - Oxford

- Best opposition player - Thought Harry Pell was good when he came on for Hereford

- The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far - Foderingham, maybe Ferry for how he's bounced back from being frozen out last season

- The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far - Clarke? Otherwise Lanzano.

- Most enjoyable match - Crawley away - particularly the last 15 minutes.

- Biggest moan so far - Not too much to gripe about, the odd selections at times and random dropping of people like Kerrouche. Oh, and as bigbobjoylove says playing Glad all Over after we score

Best opposition player: Lee Holmes
The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far: Caddis
The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far: Mattia Lanzano - proper comedy goalkeeper
Most enjoyable match: Huddersfield
Biggest moan so far: The really yummy mummy who sat in front of me last season has either moved seats or stopped coming

Will also base this on games i've been too,

- Best opposition team - Southampton played us off the park. In the league i'd have to say Pox although I fully believe our settled side right now would demolish them.

 - Best opposition player - I was impressed by Young at Northampton on saturday. Don't think i've ever seen a player so fast before, especially for a right back.

 - The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far - Flint I think. Was expecting a bench warmer another wilson mistake. and look what we got instead. Very rare for him to be involved in a game and not challenging for motm!

 - The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far - Lanzano I think has been the poorest, but Risser has disappointed me the most. Expected him to lead the line. instead he's just been a bit shite.

 - Most enjoyable match - Plymouth for me, as I was able to walk to the game, have a few beers, we won and I got to see the entire team celebrate as a unit and rally round to help Paolo when he was struggling after his dad. Though Northampton was very sweet to win like that.

 - Biggest moan so far - The fact I had a season ticket for the shite of last year. This year we're winning and doing very well and I can't go to the majority of games!

 - Best opposition team - Southampton

 - Best opposition player - Novak of Uddersfield

 - The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far - Foderingham (but Caddis, Ferry, Flint, McCormack all equally could be named)

 - The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far - Risser

 - Most enjoyable match - Uddersfield

 - Biggest moan so far. - Losing at home to the Pox.

- Best opposition team: Southampton, thought they played us off the park in the CC and showed their quality. Should be in the Championship play offs at worst!

 - Best opposition player: Billy Kee for Burton. Movement and positioning was great against us.

 - The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far: Hard decision here, Wes, Ferry, Smith, Caddis and McCormack have been ace, but for me it's Aden Flint. He's been immense alongside A-Mac and is coming on leaps and bounds!

 - The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far: Risser

 - Most enjoyable match: Northampton 1-2 Swindon, for that celebration alone!

 - Biggest moan so far: Losing 2-1 at home to the Scum, hope that is put right in March!

Best opp team- Southampton - Gillingham in league plus Shrewsbury in the 2nd half
Best opp player - excluding the Soton team, Charlie Lee of Gillingham impressed
Best Town player - Caddis overall - Wes for latter half
Worst Town player - Lanzano gets my vote even though I missed his Hereford performance
Most enjoyable match - City away for the overall result, Crewe for the great start to the season and Northampton for the final drama (though for much of the match it was ranked pretty low!)
Moan - failing to find a strike force that turns our dominance into goals; I'm hoping that Benson's arrival will help solve this one

 - The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far- Simon Ferry

Best opposition team
- Saints were class and Gillingham's quality shocked me.

Best opposition player
- I don't recall any player that impressed me, but Lee Holmes perhaps because I made a point of watching him.

The Swindon player that has impressed you most so far
- Kerrouche until he remembered he was French and since then, McCormack and his ability as a centre half. Smallest centre half in League 2/England/Europe/The World? :)

The Swindon player that has been the poorest so far
- I couldn't single one out.

Most enjoyable match
- Huddersfield

Biggest moan so far
- Whinging fans and shit refs.
