Torquay United manager Martin Ling says Swindon's Billy Bodin is his top target in the January transfer window. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16389822.stm Title: Re: BBC News: Torquay boss Martin Ling targets Billy Bodin deal Post by: RJack on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 11:07:11 I have a feeling he'll go to Toquay permanately in the Jan Transfer Window freeing up some money & wages for PDC to bring players in other areas. Shame really as he is a decent prospect

If it goes to plan and we do go up he will be even further away from getting a starting place at Swindon. Think he is a good player but more games at this level is the only way he is going to improve.

Good luck to him. Title: Re: BBC News: Torquay boss Martin Ling targets Billy Bodin deal Post by: Batch on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 12:12:28 I'd love Bodin to be a success for us. But I think he should take the move.
As already said, at the moment he is a good prospect, but he's not going to be getting near the first team any time soon (in my opinion). Title: Re: BBC News: Torquay boss Martin Ling targets Billy Bodin deal Post by: jonny72 on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 17:14:19 Judging by what PDC and Ling have said recently it will be a loan deal, though originally PDC was talking about selling him.
Can't see the point of selling him myself. Give it the rest of the season on loan and then review in the summer. It's not like we'll get much for him nor will it free up much in the way of wages. Title: Re: BBC News: Torquay boss Martin Ling targets Billy Bodin deal Post by: Costanza on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 17:14:40 I reckon we should keep him.
Title: Re: BBC News: Torquay boss Martin Ling targets Billy Bodin deal Post by: cheltred69 on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 18:36:36 Seems to me that were doing the sensible thing judging by comments on radio at weekend from wray and PdC. Taking a look at him to judge how he's progressed and whether he's likely to feature in first team this season.if not let him go back to Torquay til end of season. I'd certainly like to keep him longer-term if he's progressing as Ling suggests.
Title: Re: BBC News: Torquay boss Martin Ling targets Billy Bodin deal Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 20:04:20 I would hope that we loan him to them for the rest of the season, as he isn't going to get games here.
Also, if we were to sell him now, we would get next to bugger all for him, but if he does continue to improve he may turn into a useful asset for the future. Title: Re: BBC News: Torquay boss Martin Ling targets Billy Bodin deal Post by: DV on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 20:34:37 Think him spending the rest of the season at Torquay then coming back here at the end of the season is the best solution.
Title: Re: BBC News: Torquay boss Martin Ling targets Billy Bodin deal Post by: wiggy on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 20:40:44 Billy Bodin featured in the sports round up on BBC Wiltshire about 5:40, and he was saying he wants to be playing and would rather be at Torquay getting regular games than here and not be in the first team.
If you look at his record as a goalscoring winger in a side doing well at present, why would we be looking at buying Rooney? Just bring Billy back and accept he is a winger more than a striker. From the clubs perspective i agree. He's scored as many league goals as Ritchie has.

If you look at his record as a goalscoring winger in a side doing well at present, why would we be looking at buying Rooney? Just bring Billy back and accept he is a winger more than a striker. I think the issue there is that before Bodin went to Torquay he said he wanted to play as a striker but may have to settle for a place on the wing at torquay, it may depend where he see's himself now if he still see's himself as a striker or if he is willing to move out onto the wing that may decide his future here as if I remember correctly PDC wanted to convert him to a winger but Bodin wasn't up for the idea Title: Re: BBC News: Torquay boss Martin Ling targets Billy Bodin deal Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, 17:21:03 Bodin plays on the left hand side of a 4-3-3 for Torquay apparently so you could argue he's been playing upfront as opposed to on the wing.
Having said that when Torquay defend they go to a 4-5-1 formation which means he plays at LM when defending and as a striker when attacking. Title: Re: BBC News: Torquay boss Martin Ling targets Billy Bodin deal Post by: Swindon Please Win on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, 19:58:01 Hes back now, hes played for Torquay on the left, why don't we give him a go on the left and see if hes actually any good there could save us money if we don't need to buy a winger.
Title: Re: BBC News: Torquay boss Martin Ling targets Billy Bodin deal Post by: Costanza on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, 23:05:27 Recalling Bodin was a no brainer for me.
He's young and has proved that he can contribute within the Football League. It seemed pretty short term/naive to just sell him on and wish him luck. If he is going to play for us then of course you're right. But if he isn't going to get any games for us, then surely it would be better all round to loan him out for the rest of the season |
