I've heard good fish cooked well delicious. Much better than the old bank.

Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, December 1, 2011, 20:33:26 Is the old bank the one thats like yates? Or the posh one that doesn't realise its in swindon?
Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, December 1, 2011, 20:41:27 Old Bank is the one on Wood Street near McKenzies and the Kings. Opposite the lovely Spanish and French restaurants and Baker street.
Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: Ardiles on Thursday, December 1, 2011, 20:59:51 Is the Old Bank really that bad, or is everyone on here tonight just in a very bad mood?
And I've been out of town for too long so can't place it. What did it used to be in the late 1990s? Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, December 1, 2011, 21:00:22 a bank

Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: Barry Scott on Thursday, December 1, 2011, 21:59:39 There are few places I'd less like to go to than The Old Bank at any time, let alone after a football match.
Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: slinky on Thursday, December 1, 2011, 22:30:12 I went there once it was over priced and full of twats, never again.
Great marketing ploy posting on the TEF. Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: chalkies_shorts on Thursday, December 1, 2011, 23:00:52 In the spirit of being helpful would it be worth putting their message on the boards of those teams yet to come to the CG eg Rovers.
Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: Arriba on Friday, December 2, 2011, 09:38:49 Never been in there. If it's like Mckenzies-longs then it's not for me.
Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: LucienSanchez on Friday, December 2, 2011, 09:44:56 It's really cramped on both the upper floors, and ridiculously overpriced. I've heard it's quite nice for food (and cocktails) but haven't tried it myself. When it first opened and was fairly popular I was never allowed in due to various male clothing violations (trainers, shorts, flip flops, tacky Xmas jumpers). I could tell it was going down hill when i was almost begged to go in wearing shorts and flip flops this summer. How times change.
Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: walrus on Friday, December 2, 2011, 12:58:46 Well, this had me even more less likely to frequent this watering hole...
Then again, I doubt I'm the target market. I hope we're charging for this spam? Little bit overpriced but the food is very good and the cocktails are ace !! I'm a bit old for all that weekend loud music bit - but downstairs is definitely OK Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: ronnie21 on Thursday, December 8, 2011, 08:38:12 Definitely overpriced, food is not that great either, last time I went in there it was full of hooray henrys talking about the tory party!!! Obviously they've moved on from there now then if they are getting that desperate. :badmood:
Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: Nemo on Thursday, December 8, 2011, 10:26:07 Been to the Old Bank once, for a Christmas Meal.
We got (probably fairly) kicked out before the starter arrived as several are members were extremely drunk and were discussing the waitress in their quietest possible shout. Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: timmyg on Thursday, December 8, 2011, 12:26:58 To add a bit of balance to the slating, I've been to the Old Bank a fair few times (though not in the last year or so) and it's always been alright. A bit overpriced and a bit cramped when it's busy up on the top floor, but a decent atmosphere, good cocktails and a great terrace in the summer. Get the 2-4-1 cocktails, and request funky songs form the DJ upstairs and you'll be alright...
Not sure about the advertising on here, but as a discussion thread I thought I'd throw that in. never eaten there but the menu looks good and they've got jazz on during the week. 8) :toocool: Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: walrus on Thursday, December 8, 2011, 12:47:54 Worst marketing campaign ever?
Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: slinky on Thursday, December 8, 2011, 13:40:08 Worst marketing campaign ever? Yes it sucks but they say all publicity is good publicity. The fireworks last NYE were very good, but it did cost a fair wedge to get in so they should have been. There is an irony that the banker's recession will probably do for the Old Bank... Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: china red on Saturday, December 10, 2011, 13:56:41 Does it still only sell half pints?
If so it's not a pub. Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, December 10, 2011, 14:13:55 They don't do pints (or didn't the last time I was in there), only bottles.
Title: Re: A good night out, after a good home game Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, December 10, 2011, 14:24:47 They do serve pints. Guinness in there is always a bit dodgy though
