Title: Laptop connected to modem but unable to access websites
Post by: Bob's Orange on Sunday, November 20, 2011, 13:41:24
Hi guys.

Apologies if already covered somewhere but my gf's laptop is unable to access Internet sites. After running the troubleshoot, there appears to be no issues and the computer shows as being connected to the internet.

Any suggestions?

I had a similar problem and it was do with with IP address being static.

On a computer related note - is anyone having trouble downloading from the bay of pirates. Can download the actual torrent but then uTorrent doesnt seem to pick up any seeds or peers even though there should be loads? if that makes sense?!

Try a different browser if you have one installed

Or try if it's IE Tools-Internet Options-Connections-Lan Settings Make sure automatically detect settings is ticked and the proxy server is unticked

Remove the network on the laptop
Go to the wireless network icon and right click it
Select Network and Sharing Centre
Select Manage Wireless Networks
Select your network and click on remove network
Select the wireless icon again and right click it and select  Connect to a Network
Select the network and add your WEP Key/password

if this does not work uninstall the wireless network on the lappy and reinstall it again, that should do the jobby.

That worked! Thanks so much! And to all others that replies as well. Gf was keen to check her open university marks and can now relax! :)

Yep, got it all sorted now.

Downloaded a more update version of uTorrent and then everything started flying through.
