Not having a pop at the young lad, he's just trying to progress as a player and do so at his local club. But 12 is far too young to be making decisions like this.

The comments on the adver site are pretty spot on. In that article it sounds like the father is happy to accept the free coaching from Swindon just as a means to landing something bigger.

With the Centres of Excellence taking in players so young too many kids and parents lose sight of the fact that football is supposed to be fun.

Adver must of been scraping the barrel for stories. That's an atrocious story.

First thing coaches are taught is to make sure the kids enjoy their football primarily. This cock seems a typical pushy parent and all of his eggs are in his sons basket so he can retire early and live off his son's fortunes.

I blame the system in general rather than than dad. Impossible to say what the context of those quotes were. The media are quite adept and fitting quotes to match a slant on a story.

It just saddens me the prospect of seeing a player starting his brilliant career in the lower leagues is diminishing every season. It seems geared to be straight in and the top then sink to the bottom, rather than start at the bottom and work up.

Clearly a parent getting carried away. His son has no guarantees and the odds are against him making it. Puberty could ruin him,he could get injured,the early talent could fade. So many things could happen. He will be a disapointed dad one day i'm sure.

Whatever happens we'll be entitled to fuck all compensation under these new rules.

Pointless article - it says give or take that the reason he didnt go was the commute. Providing he keeps up his progress and the big clubs stay interested he'll be gone as soon as he leaves school

Honestly think we should scrap youth football below the age of 16.

Its become a shameful rediculous trade in children. It messes their heads up, long term it doesnt do 99% of them any good.

Im a Liverpool fan, my dads a Man United fan, my mum is an Arsenal fan and my brother is a Chelsea fan etc etc Yawn.

I've always been a fan of the system they use in the US - clubs have no role in youth development and it's all done through schools and colleges until they turn pro. Not sure their draft system would work over here but the rest of it would.

Just ban clubs from having any involvement with kids still at school and have the FA and Premier League provide funding for selected schools to become football academies. Then once they turn 16 and leave school the kids can sign for who ever they want.
