SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, October 29, 2011, 07:40:22 Yes, we have to guard against complacency, yes Bradford won't be coming down to role over and die. Those things are obvious. I don't believe any team managed by PDC will be complacent though. There is no chance of that happening. We also have enough about us to break down the most stubborn defences at this level.
With that in mind I am going 3-1 Ritchie, Flint, Connell Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: OOH! Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: Ardiles on Saturday, October 29, 2011, 16:24:50 Some good perspective there, I suppose. I think a lot of us are a little more focused on the battle rather than the war straight after the game - but 11 points from a possible 15 in October is very good form. Actually...it's promotion form, isn't it.
All sides will suffer a loss of form at some point during the season. And our hope has got to be that, with finances and a depth of squad that comfortably beat those of most other sides in the division, we're going to be less prone to this than others...and capitalise when it happens to them. I have a hunch that Cheltenham, Southend and Crawley are simply not going to be able to sustain their current form for another 6 months - and that we're going to pick up the pieces when things start to turn. [All of which is a complete mix of guess work, intuition, hope and blind optimism...in no particular order. Together with a bit of 'we really need to get out of this division' arrogance.] Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: Nemo on Saturday, October 29, 2011, 16:25:13 I swear the radio just tries to prove that free speech is overrated each week.

To be honest, we never broke them down and vice versa. Bradford were good value for their draw. On the very positive side 10/12 points and no goals conceded in the last 4. We were crying out for a proper winger when 11 v 10, but obviously hindsight is a wonderful thing. Completely agree. Bradford came for a 0-0 draw and to be fair neither goalkeeper was really tested. It's never easy to play against 10 men and we only really stepped it up in the last 10 minutes. Our final ball didn't help and at times we seemed genuinely devoid of ideas. De Vita was poor and should have been replaced far earlier. It's been a good points tally for the month, although perhaps surprising and some might say slightly disappointing that the points dropped were in home games against teams in the bottom 4. Not an issue though if we've stopped the away rot and continue to pick up points on the road. According to the radio, it's the first time we've kept 4 clean sheets for 20 years, which I find quite remarkable considering a fair few of those seasons in between have been promotion winning ones. As Ardiles mentioned, the teams above us who seem to be continually winning surely must start dropping points? Standouts today were McCormack and Jervis for his 1st touch and bringing others into play. Special mention also to Wes for recovering his composure after his balls up. I can't believe they're at the bottom and can't see them staying there.
I don't think today was about our players playing badly, just that Bradford were organised and made us look bad - credit where its due. Not a very good spectacle today and I couldn't pick a MOM. On the Smith debate, i thought he had a much better game than Ferry who was out of sorts today. Anyway, my glass is hafl full and if we can carry on this form we'll be alright. Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: stfcinbmth on Saturday, October 29, 2011, 18:50:09 Back now and on my first beer of the day, shandy don't count. Dire first half, much prettier in the second, but with no end product, we basically battered them in the second however Bradford defended well, most of our crosses were dealt with easily by their two large centre backs.
Would love to see Connell come on earlier, Montano looked quite handy and Flint as usual was immense. Shame to drop two points but one is better than none Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: Gnasher on Saturday, October 29, 2011, 18:52:48 Back 5 played well, Jervis okay, the rest were plain poor, particularly Ritchie, De Vita and Smith. Fans of all clubs fall in to the trap of looking at only their own players' performances and forget that there's actually another team out there who haven't just come along to make up the numbers. I didn't go today but remember seeing Bradford at Leeds in the LC early in the season and they looked a very tidy side indeed so it's quite possible they're in a false position.I don't think today was about our players playing badly, just that Bradford were organised and made us look bad - credit where its due. Anyway, my glass is hafl full and if we can carry on this form we'll be alright. W4 D2 L0 in the month of October in all competitions tells me we're going in the right direction. And let's face it, if anyone had offered us at the start of the season, 10 points from Accies (A) Plymouth (A) Gills (H) and Bradford (H) with no goals conceded, anyone in their right mind would have jumped at it. My can of beer is definitely half-full. Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: suttonred on Saturday, October 29, 2011, 19:48:18 Decent game I thought, just didn't quite click for us, probably because Bradford were superb at the back. Cant agree with the comments above about Caddis, thought he was our most creative player on the flanks. Only thing I thought was poor was Bradfords support, some will no doubt trot out ticket prices for non attendance but the ticket price is the lowest part of an away day cost, well it is for me anyway.

The defence had not much to do but were solid when called upon. I thought Caddis and Ridehalgh were decent going forward but not outstanding. Smith has improved so much since the start of the season imho and had a decent game today - He's never going to offer the flair that the likes of Ferry & Ritchie do, but he has a different role in the team which he performed well again today. I thought Ritchie was great in the first half, other than his propensity to try to score from way out, but faded somewhat in the second. Ferry likewise seemed less influential after the break. Jervis controls the ball up really well but couldn't seem to get the breaks today. I thought our 2 most disappointing players today were deVita (who was quite poor) and Kerrouche and I was calling for the substitutions that were made about 20 mins earlier than PdC implemented them. All in all it was one of those really frustrating games in the 2nd half. We really should have taken advantage in the first 45 when Bradford were playing more open football. After the break it was a well organised 8 behind the ball, 2 up and then after the red card 1 up. We just never got the break and you could see the frustration setting in as we became more desperate to break through - you just sensed that it wasn't going to happen well before the end. But, although disappointing, its not too bad - another point gained and the team should continue to gain confidence that they can beat anyone in this league on most days. Listened on the radio and that was frustrating enough - Vic Morgan sounded pretty frustrated too. To me it sounded like the decision making was pretty poor in attack, with too many players shooting from distance and players not on the same wavelength. Still, we remain in the top seven. Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: Nemo on Saturday, October 29, 2011, 21:50:57 Ritchie is a greedy cunt IMO He and Smith both fancied their chances from range today, think Gillingham got to their heads a bit. De Vita had a shocker. Montano gives us an interesting attacking option on the left and we saw that today. Kerrouche just seemed to float around in his own little world. Was quite a bizarre performance from an obviously talented striker as we've seen with his 6 goals! Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: Bewster on Saturday, October 29, 2011, 22:04:14 First game since the Pox so I'll give my view.
I agree with pretty much everyones view that De Vita was not in the game. Ritchie was a greedy fucker thinking he could score everytime, similiarly with Smith. Kerrooosh seemed out of sorts. I thought the defence looked solid although rarely tested - McCormack was excellent, Flint was also good but he does worry me when he has the ball on the ground. The sending off was a negative point in my view, it made Bradford defend even deeper and meant scoring was going to be a lot harder, saying that though after it there was no danger of losing. Why didn't we try and get round the back more instead of banging in crosses to be headed clear by the tall centre backs ? I'm happy with 10 points out of 12 but its games like that we should win. However having said that if we had drawn away at Plymouth say and won at home it would have looked better. Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: DA15red on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 07:00:24 I agree with most comments. Crowd was better second half and we had more than enough chances to go ahead but the ball just didn't run. Just one of those days. I thought Caddis and Ritchie were ok but it was very noticeable until Montano came on that our threat was all down the right side. I thought Ferry was pretty ineffective. Apparently Montano is the best prospect West Ham have had for years and he looked confident. Jervis had a good first touch but even though he was marked by a giant he seemed to be shorter when he jumped as he jumped in a very awkward manner. We couldn't understand why we kept pinging balls in to the middle as we weren't getting any change out of their centre halves.
Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: Spencer_White on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 08:24:47 Pissed off De Vita wasnt hauled off at half time, or at least only given 10 minutes in the 2nd half. Anonymous, again. Trying to come inside and play as a 3rd striker, but he never got the ball. All our threat was down the right. I thought Caddis was excellent (would have been my MOM) and he ran the game from right back.
De Vita is the only player I would criticise though. Other than that I thought we were unlucky. Sometimes this happens when teams 'park the bus'. Yes he did put 1 cross into the crowd, but he also got in the box countless times to square the ball. Just too much congestion in their area.
We had 1 weak link in the team yesterday. But we couldnt even afford 1. We needed everyone to be in the game to break them down. Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: Bathtime on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 10:42:34 Well that was a pretty ordinary game of football and brings a good run to an end. Considering all the options Di Canio has at his disposal I thought we looked clueless as to how we might break down a solid defence. Caddis is not an attacking full back as much as I wish he was and as much as he thinks he is. he should leave it well alone. We seem to have signed numerous wingers but we never play them. Richie was dreadful and I would have taken him off. Connell needs to start to freshen up the strikers and what happen to the tall Czech?
Hopefully this is just a blip. I wouldn`t want to go to too many games like that. The crowd need something to cheer about and there wasn`t anything worth cheering for except possibly the final whistle when we could all go home. Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: fatbasher on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 11:46:40 If we were still playing now it would be 0-0. Lets face it they were well pleased with the result and we we not so. It is unlikely but should we win the next three and draw the fourth consecutively all the way till next May then up we go as champions. However, we are 1/3 of the way through the season and on target for 78 points which should secure a playoff place. Personally I'll be looking for an improvement in form for 2nd 1/3 and kick on again in the 3rd 1/3 to push for one of the automatic places. Not unhappy with where we are. For what it is worth i think the prices are much to high but you know what they are beforehand and you takes the options. Next they will be wanting free whippets and yorkshire broadband. Put kettle on Frodo. Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: fittons_coaching_badge on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 16:10:35 Thought id have my say on the last two games ....
I am a tad worried the two wonder goals hid alot of cracks in this team going forward. The lack of creativity Ritchie apart is alarming at time. Dont really remember either The Gills or The Bradford keepers having to make a save. De Vita drifts inside all the bloody time, costing usd width down the left. What has Gabilondo done exactly? That said 4 clean sheets in a row is lovely and very very very rare! Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: Spencer_White on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 17:14:11 Some Bradford fans not very happy with our club. http://bcafc.livewwware.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=66995&sid=0e79f130a6a247bce24d77df27edd408 I think he's spot on. Lower league grounds up and down the country treat away fans like shit now. Sometimes the stewards get smacked for it, and good, because often they deserve it. Its a battle repeated in most FL and PL grounds up and down the country, every week. If you are a big club, with a big following then you can do what you want and have a good time watching the football. If you are a smaller club then you'll get bullied. Real motivation for kids to support lower league clubs. The prices are a joke, the board know it, we drop 1500 fans without a ticket promotion. I would estimate a 75% drop in pay on the day sales. Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 17:20:53 I thought we were well below par yesterday. Nothing clicked going forward and we rarely threatened to create chances. Even against 10 men (which was never a sending off) we were struggling to get anything going and if we had played all night we wouldn't have scored. We certainly had an off day. Bradford didn't really offer anything either. It's another clean sheet though and we're now unbeaten in 5.
Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: Costanza on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 17:21:19 We all knew that we'd get hammered by away fans regarding the prices. Heck most of us agree.
Title: Re: Swindon Town -v- Bradford Official Matchday Thread Post by: Bedford Red on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 17:40:53 Anybody know what was happening on County Road after the game?? All I saw was police cars surrounding a white van. We passed the van, police cars in front and behind it. There were two motorbikes inside and lots of scrap metal, so presumably something to do with that.... Will book train tickets for the December 17th tomorrow, and hopefully up for Aldershot by car end of November

Credit to Bradford for throwing bodies in the way to block shots and make it really difficult for us. We didn't help ourselves with some poor decision making in the last third though. I also would of brought de vita off sooner to change things around as we were getting very predictable. Thought Reid and Fagan were really lively for them and although It was a frustrating draw for us we probably didn't deserve much more. Still a good month for us and now need to really step our game up to get ourselves into the top three.
