It is arrogance if you expect to win a match because you have bigger crowds and bigger budgets...any team in this league and perhaps lge1 would find it tough at Accrington regardless of crowds and money, only a few weeks back Crawley got stuffed by six at Morecambe...enough said. Well I suppose with such a big squad (37 by my reckoning including players out on loan) and only being able to name 5 subs, players who play one week will find themselves completely out of the squad the next. Still surprising though. Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: Nemo on Saturday, October 15, 2011, 13:13:05 No sub keeper when the lad playing is making his professional debut is a brave one, and I'm not sure where Kerrouche is, but this does actually look a decent side- I was hoping for a chance to see Flint and McCormack as a pair.

Totally agree. Connell has been really hard done by imo. If Kerrouche isn't injured, then that's harsh as well. Although McCormack has done well, it's a risk keeping him there against bigger centre forwards. I'm getting bored of Di Canio's wholesale and at times, unnecessary changes. Can't see anything changing in terms of results on the road. We'll lose again 2-1. Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Saturday, October 15, 2011, 13:29:55 I have a feeling that Paolo want's one of the Centre-Halves to be comfortable bringing the ball out of defence, and that's why he is persisting with McCormack as the choice is him or Comazzi.
It's harsh on Devera, as he has done well in since he came back, but I guess based on the feedback after last weeks game that given a choice between him & Flint that most would go for Flint. The keeper is hardly a surprise, although not having one on the bench is a bit of a gamble. Be interesting to see how the front two play, two young lads from a higher division trying to make a name for themselves. Its 50/50 between being inspired or a disaster, lets hope its the former. Whatever happens, we NEED to get some kind of result today, even if its a scrappy draw. Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Yeah, but if he did that and we conceded a goal, the message would be why fuck about with the defence when you have a replacement on the bench. If you don't want to play Risser, then don't have him on the bench Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: Gnasher on Saturday, October 15, 2011, 15:18:51 Goal!!!!

Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: Batch on Saturday, October 15, 2011, 16:25:08 I have had a second half footballing epiphany, I now get PDC.
Went out to play football for the half time with my lad for 20 minutes. Just got back in so totally missed the second half. There were two escaped chihuahua out the back, clearly tagged up with a name and address. Spent most of the time trying to entice them over so we could read the tag. One was a bit yappie, a nasty chihuahua. One was nice. They were both scared of their own shadows though and any time they got near a slight movement sent them scurrying away. In the end one was captured by a neighbour. Enticed with chicken. The owners were out on a trip to Worcester when rang! The other one was lead into said neighbours house by using their big dog as a pied piper (of Haydon), only using ass sniffing rather than a pipe. All the time I was wishing they were proper big fuck off dogs that would do as they were told, not nervous nellies. I swear that this is the truth. -- edit: Well done town, sounds like an excellent professional away win. Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. (reference to Haydon) Back to the football, always delighted to be proved wrong when I make a negative prediction. Genuinely couldn't see anything but a defeat after last week's second half sheninighans. Good to see we were able to put it behind us and move in the right direction. Post by: tj2002 on Saturday, October 15, 2011, 19:20:29 Well my last northern fixture before Crewe in March. Great performance from the boys, Jervis and Montano looked a handy partnership and there was only ever gonna be one winner. Weird to see us dominate so much and Ritchie hardly be involved and also the 1st goal was the 1st time we's had to respond to an attack from them.
What was disappointing was some on of our away following. I love a bit of banter with opposition fans and staff but kicking off with stewards at accrington has got to be a lowlight in any wannabe football hooligans career. Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: Benzel on Saturday, October 15, 2011, 20:21:18 What was disappointing was some on of our away following. I love a bit of banter with opposition fans and staff but kicking off with stewards at accrington has got to be a lowlight in any wannabe football hooligans career. Ginger cunt whose cap got knocked on the pitch, no one is laughing with you mate, you're a cunt. The guy whose foot is in plaster but still thinks he's an extra in Green Street, seriously, sort your life out. As for the chant of , "We're Swindon and we'll do what we want" is it just me that thinks thats a tad embarrasing at a 3000 capacity stadium playing a team thats been out of the football league for the last 30 years? Hate to rant but I felt a little ashamed to be linked with some of the full on mongs there today. Spot on, it was being sung at Burton by a bunch of kids, I died inside a little. Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: Wandered on Saturday, October 15, 2011, 20:42:35 Just got back. Good day out at a friendly little club. Town played well and were not troubled. Aden Flint was immense. New goalie was good and Caddis/Ferry were good too. Nice to hear Aden Flint and Paul Caddis making lots of noise!
Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: Langers on Saturday, October 15, 2011, 21:24:45 Just got back. Great to get the win away from home and in the end it was very comftable.
New keeper looked really good, very vocal and commanding, something we have missed this year. He caught and punched a lot of the balls that came into our box really well, reckon he could be a great signing. Defence was solid but really had nothing too challenging to deal with. Flint was as impressive as ever, don't think he lost a single header, McCormack continues to impress me at CB and I completley understand why PDC keeps playing him. Caddis and Ridehalgh were solid and did what they had to do. We bossed the midfiled today, Ferry and Smith broke the play up really well and they never really had any time on the ball. Ritchie played well. De Vita did ok, end product was sometimes lacking but did a good enough job, still amazes me how much he wins in the air. Jervis had a good game, held the ball up really well and took his goal brilliantly. Montano looked livley, looks like he can beat a player aswell, again took his goal really well. Overall, solid performance but Accrington really offered nothing but very happy to get the away win and hopefully we can build on this. I didn't really see what happened with the stewards, apart from the fact it had kicked off. Pretty sure I saw Crispy in the ground at the end of the game, so don't think he was kicked out. The stewards were a bit quick to respond to the taunting they were getting. Roll on Plymouth! Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Saturday, October 15, 2011, 21:32:43 "We are the Red and White army" is by far and away my most disliked song. Its just pants. Although I agree songs like "shit refs" get my back up too.
Really enjoyed today, liked the look of Hannah Montano, Jervis won me £5 as first goal scorer and they Accrington were poor - just like Burton and I imagine Dag & Red and Macclesfield (didn't go to latter two) difference today? Took our chances, didn't look as shaky at set pieces. Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: TheDukeOfBanbury on Sunday, October 16, 2011, 10:47:07 Great day out yesterday. I took the Mrs (again) and my 2 young lads (8) & (4) and enjoyed a very long day.
Laughter from the seats when my 4 year old suddenly chants "you don't know what your doing" to the Ref. Accrington is such a friendly proper football Club. A few takes from the game: Very comfortable and as soon as Jervis scored we maintained shape and discipline throughout the remainder of the match. The new keeper - Not very tall but I liked him. Most notable point from me was his distribution, hardly put a kick or throw wrong and this helped us maintain the ball that has been lacking in away trips this season. Liam Ridehalgh - I thought had a great game and stopped any wing threat which forced Accrington the play the long ball. Aiden Flint - What can you say ? Just what has been missing. Thou shall not pass. McCormack - Took a good whack first half but was tidy and efficient. Caddis - Another great performance with some intelligent passing. Wee Simon Ferry - Great game. Tacking, short passing and all over the park. Smith - Gets stuck in and had a good game whilst on the pitch. De Vita - Done O.K. but I would not be surprised if he gets moved out of the side with the next "tinker." Ritchie - Quiet game in terms of his usual high standards but he is always a threat. Montano - Very quick feet, liked him and a good strike. Jervis - Steady game, a few stray balls but a good shift and well taken goal. Risser - Took another whack and done a job when coming on as did Connell, with Magera just getting a short run out. We stayed behind after the game and met Nick Watkins and the players. My lads got a photograph with virtually all of them which made their day. I have to say they are credit to the Club and were very polite and accomodating. Had a real laugh with Connell, Ferry, McCormack and particularly with Risser who was in fits of laughter when talking about "another" injury, "Welcome to English football" with a smile. Then out came Paolo with a mob of keen autograph hunters. My Mrs shouts "Paolo" and he came right over to us all shaking our hands and the boys had their photograph so they happy lads this Morning. Before we left Accrington we went in the Pub (The Crown) next to the ground and were made to feel very welcome by the natives, mainly Accrinton fans who said we were a good side that plays football. We then stopped in Warrington for a Chinese and then the made the rest of the journey home. Another interesting event was stopping for a coffee at the services. I was wearing my Swindon top and having a pee with the oldest when in walks some right old pissed up yobs (Villa fans). One of them obviously spots my Red top and then starts singing "You kill your own fans, you kill your own fans you dirty scousers you kill your own fans" Just loved it looking at him with his twat Mates and saying "We're Swindon Mate" :) Great day then which makes the Weekend, unfortunately can't go to Plymuff but lets hope we can build the away form on this result. Post by: fuzzy on Monday, October 17, 2011, 11:49:09 SWMBO and I went to the game.
Easy journey via many motorways and the ground was easy to find. Parked near the ground and walked into town for a wander. Found a new 'Northern Delicacy' as we bought a Butter Pie from a bakery stall at the covered market. Potato, onion and butter layered in a shortcrust pastry case. Fecking lovely :chef: As for the game, on arrival at the gorund I initialy thought "what a dive" but I soon changed my mind on that. Yes it is a bit basic and the leg room in the seating area is a bit restrictive but, the non existant distance from the pitch makes for ace viewing. When you are close enough to grab a handful of shirt or get sprayed with sweat as someone goes up to head a ball, you really bet to see how sweet the moves of De Vita and Montano were. It also gets gut bustingly funny to see the look on the oppositions faces when they can actually hear some of the comments thrown their way :D A good performance all round and I think McCormack has found his niche. He and Flint worked well together. Jonathan Smiths treacle was sat a few seats away from us. She looked uncomfortable when SWMBO let him know exactly how low he is in her estimation. Jonathan Smith is a vital cog in my eyes! If he's fit, he's got to play. The problematic decision should be Ferry or McCormack for who gets to play next to him. She thinks his tackling often leaves a lot to be desired as does his distribution and shooting. Basically, she thinks there are other players in the squad as capable as Smith is and worth taking a punt on. She has been watching the Town for 30 years or more with her only real break being shortly after we got married and she joined me in married quarters in Gibraltar for 2 years (we still got to games when leave in the UK coincided with the football season and her take on the abilities of players is pretty solid. If she doesn't rate someone, they are generally pretty poor, though she occasionaly gets a bit rabid about someone for no particular reason other than they are a bit of a cunt off the field or had one bad game. SWMBO went all the way to Accrington to follow her team. Those players she thought deserved it got the praise she thought they deserved i.e most of them. Those that didn't got advised to buck their ideas up i.e. Smith. Isn't that what being passionate about your team is about? Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: Paolo69 on Friday, October 21, 2011, 14:38:58 Think we'll have to beg to differ on this. No room for "abusing" town players in my book although you could argue some deserved it last season.
Smith doesn't seem to have given anything less than 100% in all the games i've seen. If your wife's view is that he's not good enough then that's fair enough but obviously differs from the manager's. Can undertand people get frustrated if a player isn't giving his all but from your post you simply implied that she doesn't like him so told him so. It may = passionate but doesn't = supporting IMO. Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: herthab on Friday, October 21, 2011, 14:52:29 Giving players stick if they are showing fuck all effort is one thing, giving players abuse because you don't think they're good enough is totally out of order. As long as they're trying their best, they should be encouraged, not slagged off.
From what I've seen of Smith this season no one can criticise his commitment or effort. Unfortunately a lot of our fans will get on players backs at the slightest opportunity and then stay on it regardless of whether the player improves. It's not passion, it's fucking pointless and counter productive. Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Who said anything about abuse? I said- Jonathan Smiths treacle was sat a few seats away from us. She looked uncomfortable when SWMBO let him know exactly how low he is in her estimation. I think her words were somehwere along the lines of "Come on Smith- that was Crap!" followed some time later by "Smith- CRAP AGAIN!" Honesty- yes. Abuse? I think as a fan, she, I and everyone else has the right to express their opinion. If that opinion is negative, the player needs to know. Sometimes we spend too much time blowing sunshine up their arses in order that their feelings aren't hurt. In the event that the team as a whole is going through a difficult period, she keeps her disdain under tight rein in order to not make the situation worse. She certainly didn't join in with the much deserved post match booing that we experienced last season. In these circumstances, she feels Smith isn't cutting it in comparison with the rest of the team and lets him know. Giving players stick if they are showing fuck all effort is one thing, giving players abuse because you don't think they're good enough is totally out of order. If Smithy improves in her mind, she will get right behind him. Example- Early this season, her opinion of De Vita was that he was lightweight and not up to it. He is currently her favourite player. As for giving someone stick for showing fuck all effort- who decides what the evidence of effort is? You may think someone is showing the requisite fuck all in the effort stakes and give the player the much deserved (in your view at that time) stick. Another fan (SWMBO perhaps) may have a completely different view of that players effort/ contribution and come to the conclusion that your stick is totally undeserved. Example- Phil Smith gets loads of shit on a frequent basis. He got a right earful off some fans away at Shrewsbury for their equaliser when he parried Ainsworth's shot and Gornell headed in the rebound. Now, from where we sat, that shot was a fucking belter and was moving all over the place. To keep it out was a result. That Gornell got to it wasn't Smiths fault. Smith looked devastated at the goal and the reaction of some of the fans. SWMBO expressed her opinion that Smith was not deserving of the stick. It was however just that- her opion but she stuck up for him. In conclusion, she gives praise where she thinks it due, defends where she thinks it is needed and advises those she thinks need it that they need to pull their finger out. Tell me you don't- ever? Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: LucienSanchez on Friday, October 21, 2011, 16:02:08 I quite like Smith, and want him to be good. He seems to be improving with every game he plays as he adjusts to life in League 2.

Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: Benzel on Friday, October 21, 2011, 16:08:27 He's adjusting to the pace, I think technically he's a good midfielder, maybe could do with reigning in the tackling a touch but he's thinking quicker and moving the ball quicker than he has been. Him and Ferry are forming a good partenership imo.

In what way does that benefit jonathan smith or the team as a whole?? Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. Post by: Costanza on Friday, October 21, 2011, 16:37:25 Like most of us, I've travelled 300+ miles to watch Swindon but I've never bought into the notion of "I've come all this way and I'll shout what I want". Perhaps I'm just being soft.
Some players can be knobheads (Hasney Aljofree) and some can be frustrating (too many to mention) but Jonathan Smith? He's a hard working player who is only months into his first job in the Football League. Title: Re: Accrington v Swindon Official Matchday thread. De Vita has been our most consistent player the last six matches, nothing special but putting in a performance and obliging with the odd goal and assist.
