A shit old Nissan Micra I've had for 10 years 'cause it gets me from A to B and I only use it about once a fortnight.

VW Passat Estate.  We had to get an estate when child #2 arrived.  Acres of space in the back and very comfortable on long distance drives.

Nissan Micra too - only got 6 miles of road :D

I drive a 2010 Volvo V50 Drive 1.6 diesel start-stop because its big, its comfortable, it does well over 120 mph and it can do 81mpg on a motorway and averages 68mpg.

I can drive from Chard in Somerset to Edinburgh to the Mother in laws for about £45 in diesel.....lovely.

Living in the country I need a car to even get to our nearest asda or big tesco both of which are 20 miles away.

I've got a Mini Cooper S because I like to show my effeminate side whilst also going a bit fast. Although at the moment I'm using the girlfriends 106 as I am too lazy and skint to tax, MOT and insure mine.

1997 Toyota Picnic people carrier - 2.2 turbo diesel, great to drive, can get whole family + dog on camping holidays with a top box and can also fit my whole market stall and stock in it. I am convinced this car will last forever - the only work we have ever had to do on it was to replace a fuel tank which had a small leak - it has 170k on the clock and no rust whatsoever. The best car ever.

P Reg 1996 Fiat  Turbo convertable.....140,000 miles on the clock but straight through the MOT last month with nothing wrong....like shite of a shovel is the plus side,the downside being its hard work getting kids seats in/out the back.........especially a week after an operation  :D
I keep thinking of getting rid but it is so reliable i would be daft.

VW Passat 170 Sport, its a lease car so i dont pay for thing, apart from fuel, it needs to be changed in Jan next year so i am deabting what to get next, i love the passat but its a big old unit (Very much like me) so im thinking Golf TDi Sport?  

Family bus - Honda CRV - does everything I need and more.

Also have a Focus to commute - great to drive but build quality is typical Ford.

Ford Fiesta '03 plate. Brought it because it had very low milage at the time and managed to knock a bit of money off it too to fit my price range. Has flown through every MOT since i've had it.

A Volvo C70 because I think it's a nice car, yet in no way showy, which is what I like in a car.

Hyundai Tuscon 4x4 for the winter because my commute takes me near the Peak District which can get snowy and a Vespa PX for the summer...happy days

Volvo V50. And I don't even wear polo neck jumpers. Because they look nice and are mostly reliable.

I do about 40k a year so buy cars with about 60 - 70k on the clock that are reliable but old.  At the moment have a 51 plate toyota avensis.  Comfortable enough and good for long drives. Not yet failed me in 50k miles.

Previously had a ford escort estate which failed me constantly.  Bought for £1400 and spent about 2.5k on repairs in 2 years.  Shocking motor.

40,000 miles a year?!  That's a lot of miles.  I think we do about 8,000, roughly half of which is accounted for by a few return trips to Scotland.  (Don't use the car to commute, just pay £3,000 per annum to SW Trains.)

I'm thinking of buying one of these to transport my two dogs around.

BMW 120d, because my Mum can't drive any more so donated it to me. I want to swap it for a Mini but she won't let me yet.

Just the starter motor and alternator in 2.5 years. Mine's a 2.0SE diesel and it's no where near as economical as yours!

VW Golf- Best car i've had, reliable, fast (even faster once i remap it to 215bhp) and confirtable.

Beats any of the french shite ive driven in the past.

Every day car is a steady Audi A3 BUT I also have an MG Roadster built in 1970. Converted to a V8 about 7 years ago. No road tax and under 5000 miles a year makes fully com insurance approx £ 150. 25 miles to the gallon. If this weather goes into the weekend look out for me. Its Old English White with red leather seats..... :D

A ford fiesta because my A Class kept breaking down & the finance company got fed up of me not paying them while it was being fixed, i only had it on the road for 9 months of the 20 months i owned it so they swapped it for the fiesta that they had re-posessed.

I've got its predecessor the 900, 3-door. Donated/bought on the cheap from my old man. It's like driving a super-fast tank while sitting in an armchair, and is indestructible. 128000 miles and counting.

My Car is a Mazda3 Sport, it's a 2.2d with 185bhp.

As for Why, because I wanted something which was going to be reasonable to run, reliable but had decent performance.

Volvo's: My old man use to own a Volvo Estate (something or other) back in the 90's. Very reliable but, very annoying. How many times do you need some old dear questioning your suitability to drive if you are unable to to turn the fucking lights off?

Recently I have been driving a BMW X5 3.0 (ish), a big fuck off Bentley Convertable whish I shit myself every time I get in, and a S65 V12 AMG Merc (which I love)...oh and also my personal 1996 Austin Meastro....

Apparentley it was unique. The favourite I have moved has to be the VW Koenesig (Spelling definately wrong) from around the mid 70's. You shoulda have fucking heard the sound!

Moving the topic on, what would you prefer to drive - within reason - and why? I'd like to replace my 10 year old, 125,000 miles A3 with either an A1 or a Fabia vRS. I've driven both, the A1 was bloody quick for a 1.4.

FTO it was £800 sheets, supposed to last 3-6 months and 2 years on its still running like a dream.

Drives like a go kart and despite pressure to upgrade from the better half I cannot bear to part with it. 

Have had numerous Merc C-Class for the past 4 or 5 years (new on every 6k courtesy of work!).

Just changed jobs and bought my wife a new car, so I've got her old C-Max. I only lived 1 mile away from my new job, so can walk, bike or drive...So I don't need a decent car.

C-Max is pretty good for transporting the nipper and all his accompaniments!

Realisticly ive got no qualms sticking to golfs for a long time, but i would quite like a 3 series at some point.

As a white van man I very rarely drive the car I got which is an estate Daewoo Nubira.

I took it off a mate who was going to scrap it as it just failed its MOT and was quoted £400 to have a brake problem put right.
 He brought an Astra and I repaired the Daewoo and re-mot'd it for less than £75. Only 62,000 miles on its clock in its 12 year history and in perfect condition.

Hoping to own a Civic Type-R before year end.

How the heck have you managed to get through more than one car a year? Do you work for a scrapyard or something.

There does seem to be a fair few g reg's in there, I never noticed!

A lot of my cars I had for years garaged for weekends so I had 2 or 3 cars at one stage, RS2000, XR3i, RS Turb, Cossie etc were my weekend cars not day to day ones.

And I used to buy cars on a whim when they were cheap and move them on for a profit after doing a bit of work on them, not any more though, 4 of those cars I only owned for less than 2 weeks!

The Suzuki was brand new in 1999 and a faultless little car. The Saxo's were fucking crap and the VTS blew up. Both Type R's were awesome fun and nothing went wrong but I got abit long in the tooth for a hot hatch.

I'm currently driving a Y Reg Astra Sri which is about the best car I can afford to run. Likely to keep driving that until it starts costing too much to keep going.

Beware of the small print as a lot of cars require a large deposit & you can only do so many miles a year. The Mini needs quite a large deposit & they are looking into the qualafing requirements soon.

Yeah it performs well considering the insurance group. Dunno what I'll get next, probably something expensive to run but hopefully by then I'll be mostly walking to work anyway.

Yeah Ive done the research, the three cars Ive listed dont require a deposit, and with regards to mileage I only use the car for driving to work occasionally, going to the shops and driving to footy once a month

Would go for the Mini, just for the reliability factor. Never buy a French car

Currently own a Toyota Corolla Verso (which is technically the wife's) for family transport and an Astra for daily commuting to work. Thankfully the Astra is soon to be replaced by a Civic.....once my old man decides on his next car!

It doesn't matter what car you choose on the motorbility  scheme as you only have it for 3 years then you have to change it & also all the servicing & repairs are carried out under the scheme. My dad reversed his ford fusion into a post while parking it and they repaired all of the damage.

I've got a Z3 which I've owned since new, just over 12 years now I think. Which I presume makes me a gay hairdresser. Not that I give a fuck, I like the way it drives and the lines of the body. Got it as its the closest modern day equivalent of a 60s British sports car.

Jonno I can assure you my BMW Z3 Mspec is not a gay's car.....my one is the real deal. (Although washed more than driven)

Works car is an Audi S4 4.2V8 and is very very fast.
