Title: Plymouth train.
Post by: Spencer_White on Sunday, October 9, 2011, 12:52:15
There is a direct train from Swindon to Plymouth at 8.30am (FGW). Also calls at Chippenham.

Group savers of 4 work out at £29.50 each. Got some today. You cannot use the Cross Country trains (good, they are shit anyway).

Comming home isnt quite as simple. Best train to get is probably the 17.54 (enough time to walk back and get to an offy)to Westbury, then change again at Bath. That sounds complicated but the connections are good, and it is still quick.

If you are feeling brave then there is a direct train Plymouth - Swindon (FGW) at 19.42.

I used to get that 8.30am train for work sometimes, and that will be good. Will be absolutely empty, loads of table seats, and a direct service. Classic train away day!

Is there an away pub for this?

As I live in Plymouth I'd prefer to drink with town fans beforehand, otherwise I'll just have to go to the students union before walking up...

Isnt the student bit really close to the station? Ive heard the closest pub to the station is a student pub, very strange.

Dont really know anything about the pubs. Ive only been once before, the 2004 game. That was a minibus, and we arrived fairly late. Went in the closest pub to the ground. Sang a few Swindon songs and got chucked out after about 10 minutes!

Not too sure what's its like round the station or where i'm drinking yet but there is a 'Spoons vitually next to the ground. They let away fans in for both games last season too. Does get rammed though obviously - and they have bouncers so might have to keep your vocal cords under wraps temporarily Spence.

Majority of pubs by the train station are student pubs purely because the uni is a 2 min walk from the station!
Last year I went to the Student Union and there was about 3 other town fans so not the place if you want loads will!

There is a spoons called the Brittania nearish the ground which allows away fans although only if you dont start singing songs :'(

When I looked last week it had prices for both advance and matchday, now it just has one set of prices, which is why I wondered.

Whatever bullshit they put out about making it all ticket you can guarantee that tickets will be available on the day.

A lot will depend on Saturdays result,a good win will have people thinking about it.

Saturday away days at Plymouth or Exeter are rare.

True although we did stuff them in the cup last year. One of a handful of highlights of the season.

That cup game is probably the reason weve been allowed a saturday game down there this season. But fewer and fewer fans bother with the Cup anymore (unless its a Premiership team or a local derby).

The Britannia Inn on Wolseley Road is a 5 minute walk from Home Park and it's a Wetherspoons. I was a Plymouth Uni student from 2007-2010 and at both games recently, there have been a lot of STFC fans in there before the match. I recommend it!

Remember you can 10% off FGW fares with your STFC season ticket. Only thing is the ticket wont let u thru auto ticket barriers so u gotta show ur season ticket on the trip. Kinda gives u away at the away station.

After FGW's disgraceful behaviour on the Chelt - Swindon leg after the Burton away game, I would expect some close attention from BTP.

Off to the game on Saturday, Travelodge in the evening, The Specials at Plymouth Pavillions on Sunday and sleeper train back to work overnight on the sleeper. Should be a cracking weekend.

Yes, just checked with Plymouth Argyle ticket office and they confirmed that away fans can pay at the gate on Saturday.

Yeah, paying on the day

Title: Re: Plymouth train.
Post by: Paolo69 on Thursday, October 20, 2011, 15:24:26
I am one of the 400 who bought in advance, just means less hassle on the day and more time in the pub.

I'm guessing we might push 1,000. As Spence said at the start of this thead, should be a classic away day....

Anyone know if you can actually pay on the turnstile or if it is one of these gay modern grounds where you have to queue up twice, once for the ticket office and then the turnstile as well?

Think I had a ticket last time.

Or are all the town fans gonna be dotted all over?

Lets face it, most will go to the Brittania, there isnt much other choice.

Just a word on the train tickets. If you want group savers, I would recommend buying them on the website tonight for collection at the machine tommorow (just put in that you want 4 tickets and a total of £118 will appear). Have heard they are getting a bit jumpy about selling them at the booking office counter.

Yeah good advice, can't remember what game but I did this to get the cheaper tickets.

To be fair, Swindon fans were playing up on that train. Ive been kicked off trains for far far less. And not 10 miles from home either!
